Request 1: The Changeover - Margaret Mahy
* Laura Chant
* Sorensen Carlisle
I would really like the story of Sorensen's career for the Wildlife Service, now I believe part of the Department of Conservation; but if that holds no appeal for you then I'd also really like the story of what happens when Sorensen comes back for Laura once she's a bit older.
The Changeover is one of the YA novels of my heart, a) because it's terribly romantic, and b) because it's set in New Zealand, where I was born and raised and live and which I love deeply.
Request 2: Discworld - Terry Pratchett
* Moist von Lipwig
* Havelock Vetinari
I really wish I'd nominated this fandom now because now that I think about it I'd love to see a day in the life of Brutha, from Small Gods. If that strikes your fancy, go for it!
Otherwise, Moist von Lipwig and a day in the life of system-building and bureaucracy would make me incredibly happy.
Other-otherwise, like. The Discworld books I really enjoy are Small Gods, Pyramids, Hogfather (especially Susan), Thief of Time, Going Postal, Making Money, and Monstrous Regiment. I'm not that keen on either the witches or the Watch, although I can of course be swayed by the logic of a good footnote. Do with that information what you will.
There's not too much I can add to this except that I have a massive kink for bureaucracy and politics (the more Machiavellian the better), which probably explains why I enjoy the Discworld novels I do.
Request 3: Secret Circle (TV)
* Melissa Glaser
* Adam Conant
* Cassie Blake
* Ethan Conant - Secret Circle (TV)
So basically I have a love/hate relationship with this show where I watch it while drinking wine and spend a lot of time shouting at the television. It's a thing.
One of the things I really like about it is that so far (and I'm up to 1.10 at the time of writing this) they're doing things like Acknowledging The Fact that Melissa is Upset Because Her Boyfriend Died That One Time, and not just glossing over her grief. I'd like to see that explored.
Or, like, the story of how Ethan Conant, functional alcoholic, came to be (apparently successfully) operating a bar! Why oh why is he making that life choice?
Or, how Adam realises that Cassie is his destiny and that isn't a bad thing.
Or anything that strikes your fancy, I'm sure I'll love it!
Hah, so the novels this show is based on were, like, another set of YA novels of my heart (they were basically my first fandom. Oh, 1997!), and when the show came out I have to admit I did not have high hopes. But it has impressed me with its frankly ridiculous plotlines and its completely useless parenting skills from everyone with the sole exception of Cassie's grandma, and now it is a must-see on my TV-watching calendar.
Random bits
I like and am completely comfortable reading het, slash, gen, and any level of kink with the exceptions of bestiality, necrophilia, scat, and dub-/non-con. I really, really don't like dubcon or noncon and have an embarrassment squick a mile wide - and, I mean, I haven't chosen fandoms where I think there's a strong chance of you deciding to write XXX-rated porn so this is probably a bit redundant anyway.
Right! Things I generally like: politics, bureaucracy, banter, people liking each other, ridiculous fluff, ~soulmates~, kidfic, plots, derring-do, magic, snark. My pinboard account is
here if you want to get a feel for the sort of things I read, although it's heavily slanted towards slash and I haven't specifically requested that at all.
In short: I think you are an awesome person for joining in the yuletide fun, and I thank you in advance for the gift you are giving me! :D
