I'm not sure if I'll continue to use it, but I finally got around to trying Twitter. It's an impressively simple yet powerful social connectivity and procrastination tool. Apparently, the next best thing to lunch with friends is tweeting that you're having lunch.

Have you tried Facebook, with its analogous (and superset-ular) functionality?

Yah, I do have a Facebook profile, but it seems kind of messy -- not quite MySpace messy, but too much in that direction for me to enjoy using it.

Really? I find FaceBook to be pretty well streamlined, almost as if they noted everything that MySpace did wrong and tried to address those issues.

Thanks for the add.

I especially like twitter for keeping up with distant friends and keeping track of local friends.

Does it differ from LJ in any substantive way other than a cultural standard of shorter and more frequent posts?

Yes. LJ is topic based, where conversations evolve around posts. Twitter is more... democratic, conversations link together between twitterers on a more equal footing. And there's continual seeding from people posting about what they're up to.

One problem is... conversations are shallow. And, compared to LJ, there's much less angst.
