Have you seen LC's literary guest of honor? Yeah, I don't think I'll be going next year. They picked an indy author with sales lower than mine. I wonder why they would do that? Oh! Look at Michael's picture! I can see that he's shaved off that beard he had for years... Maybe that's why they picked him... err... her?
(Side note: Because of the Stryvant books it has been made very clear to me that I will never be: A guest of any convention, nor A winner of any 'literary' award.)

Also your "disturbing realization" comment you posted in the comment thread... Yeah, that's what they do. Focus your attention away from "This is right versus this is wrong" (at which point they're falsely claiming "we NEVER do that!" to cover their own arses) to what degree of the particular detestable practice is now permissible and morally forgivable to engage in (and at this point they're claiming "It's GOOD that we do this!" to try to further shift the goalposts.)
And this is how a society chips away at its own foundations and eventually crumbles because it has no sense anymore of what is right and what is wrong because it has seared its own collective conscience (as well as just became evil, which no good can come of.)
I looked at one of my trackbacks, and on that blog I got a whole load of "Nothing is wrong with prostitution, a Woman is just making money how she wants." Totally ignoring the reality of the human trafficking crisis we're in the middle of.
