Indeed, this is consistent with Michael Crichton's idea that consensus corrupts science. Excellent.

Paul Graham is wonderful, no doubt about it. Not knowing when you're doing something stupid is a real problem. Like he said, there's no test for open-mindedness (or any other "soft" atribute), like there is for math.

Btw, I really enjoyed his speech to high schoolers too. I think you'll like the part about smart people solving hard problems.
