Another bit of hunter!verse for
dizzydame. Happy Valentines Day bb!
The demon smirks over at Martha, a leer obvious on his face as he looks her up and down.
"She said kill you, never said not to have any fun before you died..." He says, trailing off with a dark chuckle. Martha's eyes narrow, knowing exactly what sort of fun he would have in mind. She struggles against the wall. Out of the corner of her eye, she spots movement, Lona crawling across the floor low and slow. She quickly averts her eyes and looks away, not wanting to draw any attention to her pup.
Lona suddenly springs forward, going for the jugular and biting down. The bite doesn't do any actual damage to the demon but it does make him back up and cry out in pain, his concentration broken and Martha's hold on the wall suddenly broken. She slides down off the wall and onto the floor and wastes no time crawling forward for a silver knife made with holy water. She's quick to stab the demon in the thigh and then again up in the chest before reciting a quick exorcism spell.
She steps back, panting as the black smoke expels itself out of the human's body and dissipates, leaving the body to slump forward onto the floor, lifeless. It takes Martha a moment to stop and catch her breath, the knife still in her hands, blood dripping off the end of the blade. Lona whines softly and noses gently at her, snapping her out of it. "You're right, of course," Martha murmurs, looking around.
She spots Cas in the corner, looking confused and upset, knowing that John is no longer there. He whines and jumps up, giving Martha a quick lick before he begins pacing the room frenetically. Martha is also a flurry of movement, hurrying to get dressed before she quickly packs all of John's clothes along with her own. She needs to get going as quickly as she can to try and find John. She has no idea if she'll be able to track the demon or not but the sooner she gets moving, the better chance she has of finding him. And the better chance he has of being alive, but she tries not to focus on that fact either.
"I think that's everything," she says to herself, strapping her knife to her leg in case of meeting any other wayward demons along the way. She's packed the sheets as best she could in an extra bag and wiped fingerprints off anything she and John touched. There is no way she can just take the body out of the motel to bury it and she can't burn it here in the motel room so the only option she has is just leaving it and hoping that the desk clerk couldn't remember exactly what either of them looked like when they checked in.
She takes one more load of bags to her car before turning to the pups and jerking her head. "Alright, lets go," she says, hurrying them along. Lona gets it and is quick to jump into the back of Martha's car but Cas moves slower, whimpering and looking up at Martha with a very concerned look on his face. Martha takes pity on him and bends down, scratching him behind the ears where John showed her he liked it best. "It's going to be okay boy," she assures him, scratching him a bit more. "We're on our way to go and get him," she continues. "So just jump on in with your girlfriend and then we can get on our way."
Cas barks twice before jumping into the back with Lona and laying down on a seat. Martha slides into the drivers side, key in the ignition. She's quick to put her foot to the pedal and put this town and this motel room behind her.
Its been a few hours and a few hundred miles before Martha realises she has no idea where she is going. Frustrated, she digs into her purse to pull out her phone, one eye on the road as the other scrolls through her contacts. "I think we're going to have to call in the experts on this one guys," she says to the pups, just to hear a voice and break the oppressing silence.
"I mean, I know he isn't really a field hunter or anything but I think for this, for John..." she trails off, finding the right name and hitting the call button. The ringing fills the cars speakers before a low, half-asleep voice fills the car.
" 'm lo?"
"Douglas Knox are you still asleep at," Martha checks her dashboard and tries to do a quick calculation with time changes. "1 in the afternoon?" She asks him playfully.
"Martha? Martha Jones?"
"Currently the one and only. Do I have your complete attention now love or do I need to do a bit more to wake you up?"
"No, no I'm up." There is a loud yawn and Martha can hear some murmuring in the background along with some shuffling and she has to bite her lip not to laugh.
"Did I interrupt you?" She asks him, smirk in place as she imagines what exactly she interrupted with her call.
"Nah," he says, waving it off. "Nothing I can't break for a gorgeous girl like yourself." Martha smiles at that. "So what can I do you for darling? Finally coming to your senses and figuring that settling down here with me would be a much better option for you than that smelly bum and his smellier bum of a dog?" DK teases her. His joke reminds Martha quite sharply why she had to call DK in the first place and she sighs heavily. "Ooh, that didn't sound good."
"No, its not," she admits to him quietly. "I need your help DK."
"You know I'm always here to help you doll, what's up?"
"It's John--"
"Ooh, wait, that kind of help? Like... girl-guy kinda help? Cause uh, Martha, honey, I don't know if you've noticed or not but I may not be the best sort of guy to go around giving relationship advice out. And I mean, I might have known John for awhile but I still can't tell you what makes that big melon of his actually tic--"
"No DK," Martha rushes to say and cut him off. "No, he's gone."
"He's left...?"
"No, he didn't leave! Well he did but he was taken. By some demon with blue hair. She seemed to know him fairly well but she interrupted us and took him somewhere and I don't know where he is and I need your help to find him."
There is silence down the line and Martha at first thinks her call is dropped but no, the phone still shows a connection. "DK? You still there?"
"Shit. This is not good Martha."
"You're telling me. Do you know who she is?"
"Yeah. Yeah I do and its not good. We're going to need more help on this one. Well, more than just me anyways. I need you to come get me and then well, heh, we need to swing by Kansas, of all places."
It takes Martha just half a beat before she nods and does a u-turn in the middle of a deserted highway. "I'll be there in a few hours," she assures DK, pushing her foot harder on the gas.
