Here's a nice article on
how to design social networks. The first and most interesting principle is #1: Pave the cowpaths. That is, rather than imposing your ideas on how to grow the network, see what people are actually doing and create ways to facilitate that.

Wil Wright appears to have ther firmly avowed belief that games are bad and toys are good, and that making the stuff is the point and it affecting the game is not. I disagree, which is why I do not play Wil Wright games.
