Woody almost sounds Catholic here. I think G.K. Chesterton has a quote about how with every decision we stand on the brink of eternity because every choice we make, no matter how apparently big or small, determines who we are. (It also reveals who we are - it's self-revealing and self-determining at the same time, which ought to sound like the "exitus-reditus" (spelling?) the Greeks came up with.) I think Aristotle made a similar point with his idea that virtues are habits - through a series of choices, you can essentially train yourself to be virtuous (or vicious, depending on how you choose).

Woody goes slightly awry when he says that we are the sum total of our choices; we are more than that, but I think I'll agree with the point I think he was trying to make ( ... )

With respect, I think you and Woody are starting from different premises. I don't think he was "trying" to make any other point than the one he did ( ... )
