Dr. Who and religion

The Brisconator forwarded this to a select group of Whovians.  It has some spoilers from the most recent season, so be warned.

It will require a spirited defense on behalf of secularism, but I'll have to put some thought into it...

Wow... that article seems rather bigoted against atheism and secularism... pointing out that Only Christians can forgive their enemies and Atheists are assholes who are out only for themselves. And it seems like the author misses that every time the Doctor offers forgiveness and aid, and is rejected, he utterly destroys them. But why shouldn't he offer to help them in the first place? He's a complete outsider wherever he goes, and he's just looking to have an exciting time and leave people better for it, so if two aliens are fighting, why not find a way to satisfy both of them? If the Daleks are doing nasty shit just so they can have a future, why not just show them an easier path. And I think its tremendously foolish to believe that you have to have a god to exist to have a moral code, or for that to be the reason to do good things.
