Everybody I know is complaining about this. It really is frightening and awful. Your post has finally convinced me: I will never visit cnn.com again! I'll just go to BBC etc. instead. We should all boycott the site - I think reducing their hits is the only way to send a message - albeit one no one will notice - it will make us all feel good, though. Let's do it!

I remember vividly reading in my AP US Government textbook as a senior in high school, that the role of the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour on PBS was not to inform anyone of current issues because no one actually watched it -- it was so that talking heads could play the game of who was important enough to be on the show. Of course, during this exact same time period, our father used it as a means to fall asleep in the papasan chair each and every weeknight. Not sure what to make of that.
