Megaplex 2010 was amazing, honestly the best con experience I've ever had!
The convention started early for me, I was spending the weekend crashing at Tycoon's place 10 minutes from the con and I got there on Thursday in time for a quick bite, trip to my mother's to pick up my sandals (d'oh), and then arriving in time for some fursuiting fun! Tyk fursuited up (I'm such a HIMYM fanboy) and I escorted him around getting into all sorts of shenanigans as the con guests trickled into the hotel and dance from the bowling outing. I also happened to meet Paul Zaloom who wandered into the headless lounge, such a charming fellow, but more on that later.
Friday we woke up late (this is a pattern for us) and arrived during the lunch break. We padded around the dealer's den for a bit saying hi to a few artists I know, chief among them being Genesis Whitmore who I had the pleasute of meeting at Furloween and Elliot's Fall Festival last year dressed up as Sabretooth. She was running the den and everything seemed to go smoothly all con. We ambled into the fursuit care panel that Tyk really wanted to see as he just recently received his new fullsuit from Midori and Jillor, it was informative, but a little unstructured for my liking, he took some good notes though. Then we went to the Meet the GoH which was awesome, anything Paul touched all weekend turned to gold. Then there was Matthew Ebel's concert, I sang along to half of it having bought both his earlier albums last year after hearing him perform, he's such a good performer. Then Uncle Kage entertained us, lots of people said he was going to recycle material, but nope, this guy's life is so interesting he never needs to! Then it was time for more suiting by Tyk and dancing, BBF was DJ that night.
Saturday, couldn't get a late start because the line up for the Parade was so early. We crashed my old roommate Kellogg Collie's room pretty much all day, using it as our personal headless lounge. He didn't mind of course, said it made him feel at home, plus I was suiting in his Moxie Foxie costume. It was a blast, the parade went on without a hitch and I was sorta stunned to see how much the patrons and staff of the hotel got into the fun, I guess it's been a long time since my entertainment days at Disney. Afterwords we sorta chilled and waited for the Gameshow, we were selected for the prize panel and I was one of the first prizes chosen, she gave it away though and walked away with some pretty neat stuff! Then it was time to watch Zaloom in action, I got to participate in a Beakman experiment and it was awesome for me because I watched his show growing up and it was like a dream come true! And then I sat back and laughed my ass off at his 18+ puppet show, the best parts were when he broke character after Leon shouted, "Way Too Late" after a comment about trying to turn the audience gay and the finale which took us all by surprise! Tyk attended Rocky for a bit, then split to suit some while I played Exalted. I really do miss table-top RPGs. Then it was the dances and karaoke, I was one of the last performers with Mika's Grace Kelly, the audience loved that one and I didn't butcher it too badly.
Sunday we got up late, again. We didn't get there until 2 and basically did as we pleased, meaning suited and ate lunch, up until it was time for the Closing Ceremony. We did invade the picture shoot room after it was finished and used the props for our own little session, got a few neat pics from that Tyk might put in a collage later. We attended that and listened as people gave feedback, some people need to think before they speak...Anyway, then it was time for WTF theatre, much less funny or energetic this year than last year, Ebel was on point and Kage tried, but the backbone of the group was exhausted and they didn't utilize the audience as much. Though Ebel did lead us in a few Queen songs, that was fun! After that there were dances and failed attempts at Tyk and I teaching one another gymnastics.
And that was it really. I spent Sunday night with Tyk as we were both exhausted and Monday we both resumed work. My highlights of the con were chats with Paul and the time I spent with Tyk, which as some of you noticed was the whole con! I like small, local cons like this. It's good to see so many familiar faces and even nicer that it's light on the pocketbook.
Thanks to Tycoon, Genesis Whitmore, Fafner, Kellogg Collie and all my other furiends for making this such a memorable experience.
See Ya Next Year!
