You´re MAD - both of you!

"Thrilled" ain´t in it *bouncing hardcore fangirlish hugs*

My typist colleague heard me yelp seconds ago when I read this, he just rolled his eyes and went, "What is it NOW - Aubrey, or the Cardinal?" (I´m easy to guess, ha ha!)

You should post your opinions about the movie after you watch it :)

Oh, I certainly will! :) And you bet Mum and Gran will want to watch it, too.

(I´m just beginning to discover Russian films for myself, and their versions of classic literature are way more faithful of the original, more subtle, and visually stunning. It´s so unfair they´re virtually unknown in the rest of the world.)

I'm not sure what to think of Ratzinger lately. He seems to be on an eco-kick installing solar panels on the Vatican and throwing eco-festivals with biodegradable tote bags. I'm happy to see him connecting the issues of pollution and worsening the conditions of the poorest people around the world, but it does seem a little cheap that he's lecturing about the sanctity of marriage to a crowd of dreadlocked Italian hippies.

Oh yeah, quite! But at the same time he doesn´t give the word to dismantle the huge Radio Vaticano antennae in the Roman suburbs whose extremely high levels of radiation have increased cancer around them for the last twenty years... so much for preaching with the example!

Hee, oh my goodness! That was so funny! I'm disappointed we didn't get to see more of the disco dancing right after Anna's prayers to the Madonna! But I'm very pleased that your wishes were granted so quickly! (And hee! at your typist colleague's reaction!)

The Pope is going to take a bath outside your window? What?

Tee hee, yes, Anna´s tantrum in the chapel is so funny-melodramatic.

I *adore* the scene of the Cardinal playing the lute and singing like a lovesick boy, because it´s not so very un-canon, after all (though he didn´t play and sing for *that* queen :p). And of course the "My tra la la" parody of his also on YouTube to "The Ding Dong Song" is priceless *stuffs the Cardinal´s ears firmly so he doesn´t turn in his grave yet again*

No no, LOL, it´s a Spanish turn of phrase, "un baño de multitudes" (to take a bath in the crowd), means to mix and mingle among the folks come to see him in the street. Close up, he gives very strange vibes *shudders*

I'm glad he wasn't literally taking a bath. That would be very strange.

Completely OT - but can I ask a favour? esteven September 7 2007, 21:14:53 UTC
Would you know where to ask/obtain video copies of German movies of the 1930s? A friend in Denmark thinks highly of the Austrian actor Anton Walbrook, until 1936 Adolf Wohlbrück. She would dearly love the versions with him of Der Student von Prag (1935)and Michael Strogoff - Der Kurier des Zaren (1936)

Every now and then they crop up on our regional programmes, but I thought there might be a greater chance in Austria. Mind, the movies have not made it to professional videos so far. It would be lovely if you could have a look or know where to ask.
Thank you.

Will ask around in the Österreichisches Filmmuseum, it´s just around the corner from my office - if someone knows where to get a copy, they surely will! (would any format be ok?)

I remember "Der Student von Prag", is it the expressionist black and white, mute version? There´s a revival of old movies going on, so Strogoff should be among them. Shall keep you informed.

And THANK YOU, very very much! I can´t refuse because Jack and the Cardinal are quite simply beyond my power of self-denial *veg* Please, start thinking about what I could get you! (beside these two movies of course, if they can be found)

There are several "Der Student von Prag" versions, but I am looking for the 1935 with Wohlbrück and that remake is Tonfilm. So should "Der Kurier des Zaren".

As to format, well it has to be video (or DVD) because my Danish friend cannot play films. The dear even takes care of Wohlbrück's (later:Walbrook's) grave in London.

Thank you already for going to the trouble for me (or rather for my friend):D

Please, start thinking about what I could get you
Yourself.
