Don't forget Alice and Wonderland. The rabbit is the impetus, the connection to the other world. In all of these cases, the rabbit is the bridge between worlds. An emotional connection between Julie and Maxx and the Outback. An echo between the "wrong" world in Donnie Darko, and Harvey is referred to by both Elwood and his aunt as a "pooka" which is a connection to the fey realms.
Rabbits are bridges between worlds. I'd say moreso than other trickster figures.
