Please, if anyone has ever taken sleeping medications (non-perscription) that have worked well with minimal side effects, I would love to know. I have not been sleeping. I can't fall asleep. I can't stay asleep. I am not sleeping deeply, and I am having messed up dreams too. It is nearly impossible to get out of bed.
I am getting to the point where ( Read more... )

Most OTC sleep medicines (other than herbal stuff) are really just benadryl (diphenhydramine). The effectiveness varies from person to person but it's pretty well time tested and has a very low incidence of side effects.

Thanks for the warning, I do appreciate it. I haven't gone out to buy anything yet, probably will Monday as tomorrow I'm heading off to the Casino to have delicious gambling goodness. I'm sorry to hear about your dad (I read the other post) that is very scary and I hope he shows up soon in good health. I'll be thinking of you.

if you're looking for the naturalistic approach, i say go work out. even just jogging a mile or something will help.

i find i sleep MUCH better when my body is as tired as my brain always seems to be.

or some meditation/music. i have some music you can borrow if you'd like. for whatever reason it knocks me out every time. i used it a lot this summer while i was working third shift.

having torqued my sleep schedule around pretty handily the best thing i can suggest is be very aware of what you're putting into your body (whether chemicals or food or chemical-laden foods), and what you're doing with it physically. that will drastically affect your ability (or lack thereof) to sleep, depending on the circumstances.

Well unfortunately I've tried the exercise and music solutions.. no success. I should probably keep an eye on what I eat late at night though.. not really sure if I'm eating anything I shouldn't be though.

Well if you're looking for more natural solutions I've got a few textbooks that always seem to do the trick for me :)

Take Care,

Well I'm not really picky, natural or medicinal are both fine. I do often try self-hypnosis at night, but it doesn't always work. I need to go get myself some of the meds though to try, just haven't had time to go to meijer yet. Which is pretty pathetic since i'm on break right now :P
