The End is Nigh

I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in three days. Monday night I was shaking not from cold or an adrenalin rush, but from fear. I've never been so scared and despairing in my life. I fear for myself, my family, my friends and for the world itself

Fear is a feeling. A legitimate feeling. And I am doing something productive, I'm getting the word out. I've been doing some research on the more optimistic views on peak oil. While their arguments are weak and unconvincing, I found enough reason to hope that I was able to sleep last night.

Adapting personally to rising to rising gas prices is not a major problem, adapting as a society is. Adapting personally within a society that hasn't is. Wind cannot provide enough power to sustain us. Bicycles will not get our foodstuffs to market. Sometimes one must not nearly react, one must plan and act.

i've been teaching my students about non renewable resources and our country's squandering of the world's supply of crude oil but i never stopped to think of how our world can will come to a screeching halt should we not act now and act fast. unfortuantely, the our government is not the type to do as much as they are to just say. :(
