It's an ego thing.
That Kim Heechul was a big narcissist, it was a fact that everyone knew. He was the only Super Junior member who was able to collect accessories with his name as a logo on it, doing it not in a jokingly way, but because of too high self-esteem.
Every time he spotted a mirror, he just had to walk towards it and adore his milky pure white skin in it, touch his own face and whisper to his reflection how pretty he was, in fact a bit too pretty for a man.
He was so blinded by his own beauty that he could hardly notice other good-looking people around him. Of course he had some idol crushes and spoke openly about his ideal women; this didn't however change the fact that if he could, he would definitely fall in love with himself, since he liked his own person the most. But he wasn't that sick-minded to do so, that's how he ended up simply adoring himself in every slight way he could, beginning in bragging about his greatness on every TV show, making everyone compliment him how beautiful and splendid he was, up to being over-confident in every action he was doing.
However, Kim Heechul wasn't always like that. Even the biggest self-lover had to go through those times when it was just too hard to accept himself and when he completely lost belief in his abilities, Heechul wasn't an exception in this case. Sometimes he cried and then looked into the mirror, thinking of how ugly his face became because of the hurt written on it, and it made him shiver how much a person could change just because of the different emotions he was experiencing. Then he wondered about life, about how everything passes by (and so did life) and how old and useless and weak he would be one day.
He wanted to believe in his own perfection, he really did. There were times though when he had to admit that he was also only human, one of the thousands and millions of people on Earth, getting lost in a big crowd just like everybody else.
Except, that he was an idol. And oh, he was also a bit prettier.
But beside of that, Kim Heechul was only a small creature in this wide world, with the most probably biggest ego ever.
