The idea behind it is that there is a physical limit to how small a keyboard can be, as each button can only be so small. If text input was a series of gestures (like sign language), the device's size would not be constrained by the interface. The problem is how can you design an interface that's small enough for a tiny cellphone that's easy to use? Also, it has to accept input from something that doesn't cost a lot. Hardware that tracks eye motion is something like $20,000
