Llano river hike pics and story

Jul 12, 2008 19:55

I drove west from Austin on TX-71 to Llano, TX to hike along (and in) the river. (many) Pics inside.

We started out hiking on a dry river bed, but we soon found the river itself. There was a lot of hiking in the river, and the water got up to my chest in places. It was about 98F outside, so the water (even if it was warm) was refreshing. We hiked about 4 miles total, and it took about 4.5 hours. I brought three bottles of water, and drank two of them. After the hike, we headed over to Cooper's BBQ. It's a very famous BBQ place, with hour waits or longer if you come during peak hours. Since we showed up around 3pm, we didn't have to wait at all. They have the smoke pits outside, and you tell the cook what you want. Then you take your meat inside to pay for it and eat it. Their brisket was so tender, moist, and flavorful. Best brisket ever.
