I covered most of my thoughts in my episode review, but I just felt so bad for Rodney. Everyone he cared about on Atlantis is gone. EVERYONE. And he spent the rest of his life trying to save John so that all that pain and horror of the timeline could be erased. Great send-off for Season Four.

Absolutely! Even though it is a cliff-hanger, "The Last Man" stands on its own as a great send-off for Season Four!

I loved this season (okay, yeah, some eps weren't so meaningful to me as others)! I think the relationships that grew, and some of the new backstories, were wonderful! Nearly every episode in Season 4 - particularly after I joined LJ and had the benefit of other people's observational skills - moved me in a positive, squee-worthy way!

Thanks for your episode review, btw, kimberlyfdr - I love your responses, always from the heart, always!

I think the fact that he couldn't just go on with his life really showed how far he'd come. It was a John episode and it was a Rodney episode and in some ways it also ways a John/Rodney episode. I'm very pleased :)

I so agree, velocitygrass! The theme was John-centric: that for want of a nail, the kingdom fell, so to speak. But Rodney's importance was emphasized so much: he will save John and thereby save Atlantis! However, the recurring interactions between John and Holo!AgedRodney made it the John/Rodney show that it was! Loved it!

"I" liked it *g* And I'm sooo grateful tht tptb didn't leave John in stasis for the hiatus which could have been the end of everything since the show didn't get formal renewal until the end of October. And this gives the focus of the S-5 opener onto Teyla having the baby, 1)since she missed the end of s-4 (v.v. pregnant, you know) and 2)so the actress won't have to slug around in maternity padding for too many eps (yecch)

I really like the character bits we got of Ronon and Todd going out with a bang, Sam being a hero, and Keller/Rodney *sob* And I think it's cool that he did find a way to get John back, creating a new math and all :-)

I've watched shows that have been IMO destroyed beyond all help to the point I couldn't watch them no matter how much I loved the actors/characters (NCIS and Dark Angel to name two off the top of my head) and NO WAY is Atlantis anywhere near that point with me.

rambly and disjointed, but it's spring break and we're travelling so I don't have much time to sit and write.

I liked it, too!

If you don't mind my asking, could you give me a little idea what TPTB did to ruin "NCIS" and "Dark Angel" for you? I'm just starting to watch re-runs (and first runs) of NCIS, and also Dark Angel is rerunning, too.

I understand, now! Thanks for explaining about NCIS and Dark Angel.

I know what you mean about Michael Weatherly's character - I sometimes think John Sheppard is being a little *too* campy in SGA and I had the same problem with Jack O'Neill towards the end of his central role in SG1. Fortunately, John gets good meaty storylines, as well, so it does seem to balance out!

I loved Rodney in this episode, but I adooooored Sheppard. I can't help it, I love the kazillian expressions that play over Sheppard's face when he's freaking out. 48,000 years into the future and an extra 1000 years in stasis and no way of knowing if he can make it back and only an aged Holo!Rodney to keep him company.

And he and Rodney are so great together. Rodney dedicating the rest of his life to get Sheppard back so they can fix the timeline. Nnnngh. (and Sheppard immediately gave him credit when credit was due ♥)

And the special effects were amazing. I love this ep. ♥

I adore John, too, and he was superb in this episode! Both JoeF and DavidH played their parts perfectly in The Last Man! Season 4 ender for the WIN!

I thought this was a magnificent episode! It was definitely the John and Rodney show and I second everything you said! I thought the thing with Keller was totally believable and incredibly sad...that she died like that just when Rodney thought he was finally getting the chance to be happy. And then to spend the rest of his life trying to rescue John...*SQUEEEEE* I loved the epi...but OMG the end!!!!!! Holy CRAP!!!!!!!

Definitely agree with you - this was a magnificent episode for me! It had everything I like: John and Rodney doing things together and *relating* with one another; exciting plot turns (even though it was a bit of It's a Wonderful Life!); angst galore! And Rodney dedicating his life to saving John in order to save his family and the Atlantis expedition! Squeeeeee!

I can't wait until Season 5 airs!
