‘This is going to take forever.’ Yunho thought, as he yawned.

He hated standing in line for anything, he hated it more when the line moved at snail pace, which was exactly what the cafeteria line was doing - the kids were taking their own time to order. He tried his best to get his mind to wander through different thoughts; football practice, homework, making fun of girls, buying new football shoes, dance practice, upcoming exams; he tried to ponder upon different thoughts, but it kept coming back to how slowly the line was moving.

Yunho felt like growling. He did.

“Was that your stomach?”

Yunho jumped at the sudden question, startled at someone’s presence behind him. He was too caught up with wanting to push everyone in line and grab a sandwich and get the hell out of the place.

He turned and his eyes met soft brown orbs of a certain Kim Jaejoong staring right back at him.

“What?”

“Did- did you stomach just growl? You must be really hungry.”

“No, my stomach didn’t growl and yes, I am really hungry.”

Yunho was a person who believed in making small talk, sticking to the point; he never understood why people, girls in particular, spoke so much when only little was required. His conversations, with anyone, were precise and if the conversation didn’t call for it, there was no extra gossip added or no extra information. It was short and sweet, and Yunho liked it that way.

“Oh…I thought I heard something…” Jaejoong shrugged, in thought.

“It was me.” Yunho said, looking back at Jaejoong and turning around again. This line was not moving.

“Oh…okay. By the way, nice game last week...” He heard Jaejoong again.

“Yeah, it was.” Yunho nodded and craned his neck to see what in the world was going on at the front, when suddenly a thought struck him;

“How do you know that guy?” he asked Jaejoong, suddenly turning around.

Jaejoong jumped, jumped slightly startled at Yunho’s sudden jumpy question; “Excuse me? Which guy?” Jaejoong asked, looking around.

Yunho fought his urge to chuckle and shook his head; “No, the guy from last week. The other team’s defender…Kim something…”

“Ah, you mean Junsu?” Jaejoong smiled, “He’s my friend.”

Something irked inside Yunho; he wasn’t too sure why but something in him felt it wasn’t fair that they had won the game and Jaejoong hadn’t congratulated him for it.

“You played really nicely though.” Jaejoong said. “I thought you looked cool.”

“Thank you…” Yunho smiled and turned back in his place. He felt elated, not particularly sure why, but he did and all of a sudden, the long line didn’t seem so long anymore.

“Were you talking to that, Kim-kid?” Yoochun asked, eyes wide in disbelief, once Yunho took his place opposite Yoochun, with his tray of food.

Yunho shrugged, munching on his sandwich, replying with a vague which Yoochun chose to ignore.

“He’s weird.” Yoochun said, slapping Changmin’s hands when the boy tried to sneak Yoochun’s pizza slice onto his tray.

Yunho just kept silent, he had a lot of things on his mind; football practice, homework, making fun of girls, buying new football shoes, dance practice, upcoming exams and Kim Jaejoong had now, somehow, dug his way into his mind.

-

As it had been happening for the past few days, Jaejoong rolled around on his bed; restless and not sleepy. It was well past midnight and he was wide awake, staring at the ceiling.

“This is so irritating….” Jaejoong thought, sitting up. “I need to sleep.”

Crawling out of bed and stretched out, he really needed to sleep but thoughts just bombarded his head and drove his sleep away. He wandered out of his room and stealthily walked around the dark house, carefully avoiding the furniture. His stomach growled and he figured he could fix himself a meal.

He walked into the kitchen and stopped mid tracks when he found Yunho hungrily chewing on a piece of bread.

“Didn’t know you were hungry…” Jaejoong called out and Yunho jolted out of surprise and Jaejoong thought he resembled a deer caught in the headlights.

“Oh…” Yunho swallowed the bread as a whole with difficulty and coughed a bit; “Um…yeah, I - - “Yunho chuckled; “I - uh, I was kinda hungry…”

Jaejoong laughed softly; “Why are you eating just bread?”

“There was nothing else -“

“I’ll cook something for you.”

“No really, no. That’s not necessary, it’s fine. I really don’t want you to take the trouble.”

“Hey, I am a chef. Cooking is what I do best, you can’t stop me from it.”

“But I don’t want you to…”

“Relax, I’ll just whip up something…and besides, I am hungry too.”

-

“When you meant, you were going to whip up something, I didn’t know you were going cook dinner.” Yunho chuckled, as he stared at his plate of spaghetti.

“I don’t know, cooking gets me excited…” Jaejoong shrugged as the both of them settled down at the table in the balcony.

“Well, thank you.” Yunho smiled and Jaejoong felt his cheeks grow warmer.

They lapsed into silence, enjoying the night and the food. They sat under the clear skies, stars twinkling upon them, a light breeze played around.

“This is wonderful…” Yunho commented, sipping on his wine.

“Thank you…” Jaejoong nodded gratefully.

“How did you start to cook…I thought were into art…”

“Well, to be honest, I always found cooking interesting. And I realized that I was better at it then I was at art…so here I am…” Jaejoong smiled.

Yunho rested his chin on his hand and studied the other man; he looked like a porcelain doll under the moon light, Yunho watched at how the light breeze tugged onto Jaejoong’s hair, he watched Jaejoong neatly eat his food and sip on his wine and just there; Jaejoong’s gaze met Yunho’s and time stilled. Neither wanted to break the eye contact but both wanted their breathing to return to normal; after what seemed like hours, they turned their heads away, coughing and clearing their throats.

“I- ahem, so why did you suddenly leave high school like that?” Jaejoong asked, trying to change the topic and lighten the atmosphere.

Yunho played with his fork and his lips twisted into a bittersweet smile, as though he was reminiscing about something; “I left high school because of you.”

Author's Notes:
Yuck, this chapter is just yuck! I am so angry at myself for this. /sighs I am trying to form YunJae's relationship and bring about the other character - who by the way, do play important roles in their lives.
