Kim Jaejoong’s grown up being the youngest of eight sisters, Barbie dolls, dressing up in pink dresses, make up and sleepovers with his sisters’ girlfriends talking about wanting to kiss their boyfriends in the moonlight.

Jung Yunho’s grown up being the older of two siblings, carrying responsibility at a young age, dancing and being the model student. He’s lived a no nonsense life, watched his parents struggle through financial times and he’s spent nights studying under the lamplight trying to pass for his examinations.

Jaejoong’s finds the S.M Entertainment flyer about their search for new talent when he’s sitting in the dark alley, the one behind his house, a cigarette dangling in between his lips. His hands shake as he feels the flyer.
It’s time.
It’s time to move out of the nest, he thinks.
It’s time to live life.

Yunho’s finds the S.M Entertainment flyer pinned to the school’s notice board, he’s the president and he needs to check the notice board every hour. He takes down the details and the contact number and he feels a sense of liberation as he thinks of the possibilities.
It’s time.
It’s time to do something, anything for himself, he thinks.
It’s time to live life.

The first time Jaejoong sees Yunho, he doesn’t think much about Yunho. He’s a tall, lanky, boy with crooked teeth. But his eyes remind Jaejoong of stars in the night, the ones that twinkle and don’t die and the kind of stars that people would like to see in the sky when they look up in the night.

The first time Yunho sees Jaejoong, over sized sweat shirts and track pants, big, cold eyes and an uneven hair cut; he thinks it’s going to be so easy to fall in love with this boy.

(They both don’t ignore the way their knees wobble and their breath gets caught in their throat and the thumps of their hearts when they are put under the same training batch)

They are Dong Bang Shin Ki.
Rising Gods of The East.
Yunho’s the leader and Jaejoong’s the lead vocalist and there are three others with them. The five of them are young and fresh and new to the entertainment industry and they are supposed to live up to their name. Gods.
Yunho’s scared shitless and Jaejoong’s sipping on his orange juice and listening to his mp3 player two hours before their debut stage.
Yunho thinks Jaejoong’s not human for not feeling nervous.
Jaejoong just laughs at how silly Yunho’s acting.

When Jaejoong kisses Yunho, it’s a light peck on the edge of Yunho’s lips. They are drunk on cheap alcohol and cigarettes. Jaejoong reckons Yunho will not be able to remember this little romantic gesture when he wakes up the next morning, so he kisses harder and it surprises him when Yunho kisses back with equal want.
This has to be some kind of crazy.
They wake up next morning, naked and to Junsu banging on their bedroom door like his butt is on fire. It’s not awkward, just blurry. They throw on their clothes and fix their hair and walk out of the room like it’s just another day.
(But it’s not just another day; it’s when they fell in love. Crazy, knee wobbling, tongue tying, cheeks blushing in pink love, like the sort of love they watch in movies and read in books - only this is real life)

They are addicted to each other, addicted to kissing each other - in corners, curled up against each other on the bed, in the van when everyone is sleeping. They kiss each in inappropriate places only because it’s inappropriate and the risk of getting caught makes their blood pump.
They love it.

When Jaejoong leaves, leaves the dorm, leaves the company, and leaves Dong Bang Shin K, Yunho smiles.
Not because he is happy, but because Jaejoong is happy. He is doing what he wants; he is singing and living free. Though Yunho craves to stand next to Jaejoong, he has responsibilities; after all he is the older brother. But he watches how JYJ soar to popularity and he applauds them in his heart and smiles watching their videos and reading about them. He is a proud leader.
They talk to each other in the nights, when the managers are dozing in the other room and Changmin is eating his midnight snack in the kitchen. It’s like nothing’s changed, maybe the other three just got another apartment.
“Is Changmin still hungry? I can send him some food, Junsu’s watching his weight and Yoochun’s being PMS-y” Jaejoong sighs.
Yunho chuckles and peeps out of his bedroom and looks at Changmin stuffing his face. “I think he’s good for another two hours.”
“I’m still coming over with the food, its Changmin his appetite is massive, just so you know leader-sshi.”
Yunho can see Jaejoong rolling his eyes and packing the containers of food and slipping his feet into his shoes.
They hang up and an hour later, Jaejoong’s at their door step and of course, Junsu and Yoochun had to come along because, what an absurd idea it is to miss out being together.
Changmin squeals when Jaejoong sets the food on the counter and throws out his grabby hands and pulls the containers close to his heart, Junsu loudly announces that he’ll be in the game room if anyone needs him and he adds that no one should need him because he wouldn’t bother even if they did and Yoochun clings to Yunho’s arm and buries his head into the leader’s shoulder and cries about how much he’s missed Yunho’s bed and slinks into Yunho’s bedroom and fall asleep almost immediately.
Jaejoong’s stuck between yelling at Changmin to “eat slowly and that no one would dare touch the food” and telling Junsu to “please wear some pants while playing those stupid video games” and asking Yoochun to “stop drooling over Yunho’s pillows because he never washes them anyway.”
It’s chaotic in the most amazing way and when Jaejoong finally settles everything with the kids and makes his way towards Yunho, tired but smiling so contently like there is nothing wrong, Yunho can’t help but think if this isn’t love he sure as hell doesn’t know what is.
