X flicks a quick, sidelong look at Duo before returning her attention to the curve of the colony enclosure.

"Because you cannot cook?"

"Hey, I can too, now! I mean, I can feed someone without embarrassing myself, anyway. But we aren't talking four stars. And besides, I have money. What else am I gonna use it for?"

Duo shrugs.

"Weaponry."

X is matter-of-fact.

"And rent."

What?

"Rent does not exactly take up a big percentage of my paycheck." He gets plenty of hazardous duty pay, and this isn't the classy section of L2.

"I did dump a lot of money on the motorcycle," Duo admits. "But a lot of that was a secret stash that needed to be used up. I'm not even keeping a room at Milliways anymore." He usually crashes in Laini's suite.

Hmm, maybe he should kick in something towards her bill.
