My little brother Sam is twenty years old. I was talking to my Dad this morning and he told me that Sam is withdrawing from college. Basically he is dropping out because his grade point average is so that it is his only choice

the younger ones always get "away" with more and get more stuff because
1- parents tend to have more resources than they did when you as the oldest/older one did coming up and i think the good parents want to share that with their kids as much as possible, i imagine thats why they work so hard in the first place.
and 2- they are TIRED and jsut want the kids to STFU already. whatever it takes, jsut be quiet and go do something somewhere else.
3- you see more and more as you get older that parents ARE NOT perfect and don't always have the best asnwer, let alone ANY answer. this could be one of those times where your dad is jsut at a complete loss and this is the only thing he understands and feels is within his power to do.
these are the thigns that i have learned as the oldest penguin in the zoo. granted, the situations aren't quite as intense as what you have described, but similar in sentiment
