Interesting "My Bloody Valentine" 3D Review/Meta

Feb 22, 2009 16:05

Thanks to gatorpez  for the following link to a very interesting review/meta on MBV 3D and how women have reacted to Jensen's character of Tom as compared to other characters from horror movies past.

It is extremely spoiler heavy to the point of including clips from the film, so please don't read it if you haven't seen it and still want to be surprised.

She brings up a lot of good points. I know that I, for one, was one of the people cheering when Tom/Harry walked out of that cave alive. O-o

I thought it was a fascinating article... made me rethink my own reasoning behind the sympathy I felt for Tom. That perhaps it wasn't just my lust for Jensen ;)

Hey, thanks for sharing this. We enjoyed the film and while we both rolled our eyes at the heroine going back to the idiot husband, it didn't lessen our enjoyment. This article probably explains why we enjoyed it as much as we did. Didn't think to analyze it, but this rang true.:)

I thought that Kerr's character felt some compassion toward Tom (finally!) once he realized what was going on with Tom's mind and that, combined with his willingness to have his wife shoot him, were the reasons I could come up with for her reconciling with him at the end. The look of adoration was over the top for sure but that's the only way I could try to justify it ;)

Despite my enjoyment of the article, I'm not entirely convinced if my sympathy toward Tom has more toward my lust for Jensen than anything else but it was definitely an interesting read ;)

Thanks for that link! I don't think I'll ever watch this, but it was a fascinating look at the movie itself. Her analysis of why Tom is a sympathetic character was very fascinating. I especially liked her comment about how the fact that he was mentally ill was used by the other men to invalidate him--just like so many women have been done to in the history of the world.

I have to admit I feel a little more validated about the fact that I did have sympathy for him. I couldn't help dismissing it myself as simply me being a fan-girl but, yeah, in reading this and remembering that moment when Jensen masterfully merged the two personalities, my gut reaction to that scene makes more sense.

I genuinely wasn't thrilled with the movie and felt Jensen's talents were wasted for the most part. Still, this makes sense to me and was definitely an interesting and enlightening read.

writerinchains loved it, but, like you, felt like maybe her lust for Jensen was influencing her appreciation for the character. ;-) So thank you, again, for the link.

YES!!!!! I didn't dig that deep even that i love the movie. I felt there's something more, not just my love for Jensen that made me love the movie and the author finally put 2 and 2 together... exciting reading!
