Thanks, dogs & fic stuff

Thanks to everyone who sent their sympathies over our loss of Dempsey and, to smilla02, the virtual hugging teddy-bears are much adored! The house is still feeling the adjustment; Boomer is still convinced the living-room is his at bed-time so looks so surprised and thrilled that he's getting to come up to bed at night that I feel like both ( Read more... )

OH! That is so cool about the nomination! I sure do hope it coaxes your fickle muse out to give us more great fic soon. I've long and always considered your hurt!Dean among the best out there.

Dude, since my own muse has been coaxed out lately, I'll bottle up some of her mojo and send it to you post haste.

I'm a dog lover myself! I have a Golden Retriever/Shepherd mix named Sidney, and recently we got a new puppy, Murphy. He's 7 months of yellow Lab, a true Marley but we're seeing potential. Before work and after, we take them swimming in the pool and we'd been worried Murphy wasn't gonna dig the pool. He certainly didn't at first. But he's all in now and he's a great swimmer, just like Sidney.

Take care!

Cooper is a water freak, unlike most of my terriers. If it's within a mile of him on our hikes, he'll disappear and come back soaked. We'll take him out in the canoe to the local lake and he'll dive in to swim and follow us which, with me being a non-swimmer, used to freak me out but now I'm used to it ;) A few of my terriers swim but more out of necessity than desire - only one of them really loves the water but Coop makes up for that in spades :)

Please do send you mojo my way though, I'm afraid if I caught it, I don't think I'd have the time to deal with it right now anyway. Come September though... I'd love to have an active muse again ::crosses fingers and toes::

Jess and Coop helped keep the smiles going with Dempsey's loss. I'm going to miss her, though I expect she'll be back before month end. She's only 3 and I can use that youthfulness around here :D

Thanks for the congrats too :)

Thank-you, lady. Dempsey's loss has left a big ole crater in my heart but that doesn't mean I can't be pleased about the Sensue award, right? Your sympathies are much appreciated. *Hugs* back :)

I have to apologize because I read your post on Dempsey and meant to go back and say how very sorry I am for your loss - and then RL scooped me up and dumped me here... so...

As someone else whose animals are so, so much more than that, I am so, so sorry for your loss. Most people don't realize just how hard it can be to lose an integral part of your life like that. My mother, God bless her, never really got the "pets" thing, and I was taken aback by how hard she took it when my horse died. And she was afraid of horses her entire life. I think if my dog had not outlived her, she would have felt the same for him. Most people don't realize that the most important part of companion animal is the companion part... Again, my deepest sympathies for your loss...

And Happy Canada Day back atcha! I'm totally disoriented myself... Is it Monday? aarrggghhh!

Thanks, girl. I really appreciate the sympathies, especially from someone who truly understands. If we open ourselves up to them, our critters can worm their way into spaces so deep in our hearts and souls that the pain of their loss is just huge. My mom was my best friend but her loss a few years ago was no greater to me than the loss of some of my pets. Though I don't consider them "my kids", I have raised, nurtured, nursed, and loved them (in some cases brought them into the world and breathed life into them) and I think that position makes the loss harder than losing someone who played that role for you growing up. At least that's how it is for me. I come by it honestly though... the family pet was always a sibling to me as I grew up and, even today, I know my dad's Sheltie comes first. And rightly so, since losing my mom, I know she's the reason he gets up every morning and carries on ( ... )

No worries about my running away! It is rare to find someone who does understand. For me, it is more unbelievable that someone doesn't get that attached to a living breathing creature that is so much a part of your life. And it's true that you feel their loss just as deeply as the loss of a loved person. I am still caught off guard by a sudden longing for Rocky or Hester or Maggie or my Mom or Dad. When you love someone, it doesn't matter whether they can say it back to you -- there are plenty of ways to show it...

And it really is NEXT month!!! Good heavens! I have so much to do between now and then!

That is one of the loveliest and most truthful things I've ever read. Thank you for sharing that thought with me!

I feel the same way and yet I've got everything booked and relatively organized. All I have to do is start thinking about transportation since I'll be there for the week but "there" is Aldergrove and Vancouver and yet I really don't want to rent a car when I'll not be needing one for so much of the trip. I'll figure it out... closer to the date ;)
