Sunday's Report
After the prior night's frivolity, Sunday morning dawned too early but, since we weren't Gold ticket holders, we didn't have to rush around getting ourselves ready for the photo ops. I had 2 photo ops with Jensen (one with
writerinchains along for the ride and the other with
deangirl1 ) and one with Jared (and inchains again) later that afternoon. I thought the photo op process went really smoothly this year with us waiting downstairs in the theater and going row-by-row as they were called. Determined to take a better picture with Jensen than last year (I was only happy with one of the 2), I failed, but the end result sure didn't spoil the experience. And oh was it glorious! I wasn't as bowled over as I had been last year by the ethereal radiance that is Jensen but that was only because I was prepared for it this time, not because he wasn't as gorgeous. And he was every bit as dazzling as in 2009. The black leather jacket of sex (TM) was as awesome as most of you have already heard and fit him perfectly, emphasizing his slim waist and broad shoulders beautifully. DAMN! he looked hot. Jensen is simply a magnificent specimen of manhood and he was in fine form and great spirits - working his smile and charm and did I say he looked too fine?! I had the wherewithal to walk behind him to his right side for the 2 photos and definitely took a few beats to visually take in the back of that jacket. Yowza! Wrapping my arm around his waist was a true treat, as was taking in the lovely scent of that leather.
Unfortunately the mind numbing Jensen-effect still had me off kilter though and I didn't smile for the first photo (and wore my usual in mid conversation look that can be found in one of my last year's ops too). I can live with it though so have included it below. Besides, you guys are more interested in what Jensen looks like anyway and I love his stunning, uber masculine look here! inchains is in this photo with me and smart lady that she is, she actually rested her head against his shoulder *g*. I could've zoomed in closer for this upload but couldn't resist including as much of Jensen's legs as possible. God, does this man reduce me to a babbling 13 year old puddle of goo LOL.
I think of this as very much a Dean look and then the next photo has him wearing a big ole Jensen grin :). I wisely stayed in Jensen's hold - siiiiiiigh - until
deangirl1 joined us but as comfortable as his arm felt around my waist, I totally blew the shot. Trying to loosen up too much, I turned my attention to deangirl and was soooo not ready when the photog snapped the picture. Once I realized it was about to be taken, I froze… kept my head facing toward my left with only my eyes looking at the camera. Ugh! I spent about an hour on it last night and some time today trying to manip it enough to make it passable for uploading. I'm uploading a fairly small version of it (when it's full size) below, because anything larger would show my amateurish manips but it's a super shot of both deangirl and Jensen and, as we've already established, it's the man and his now infamous jacket you're all interested in seeing anyway ;)
Despite my lack of satisfaction in the resulting photos of me with Jensen, the experience of being there with my friends and him, watching him charm the ladies and be adorable with the kids, was worth every penny and something I'll cherish, just like last year. Seeing him at his charming best definitely had me primed for Jensen and Jared on stage!
Just prior to their panel, Creation showed an amazing video about the Winchester brothers. I recc'd it
here on Thursday. It really is fantastic!
And then came Jensen and Jared. Woo hoo! The guys were so very "on" during their panel, utterly hilarious, gorgeous, and so damn endearing. As much as I enjoyed their panel last year, this one was that much better. I don't know if they were better rested, had come from a successful shooting day or what? But this panel was a riot. Their rapport was classic, with quick witted zingers and ribbing in abundance. Their brotherly affection for each other was so obvious and just a joy to behold. Some of my favorite moments of jocularity were, in no particular order:
- When Jensen was asked, in an extremely roundabout and convoluted way, if he felt he was an 'old soul'. Jensen's responses were hysterical with him engaging the audience and cracking all of us, including Jared, up.
- Jensen's comment (I'm paraphrasing here) about Christmas Cottage being the most frightening movie Jared's done
- Jared's repeated "can Jensen answer it?" when fans asked specific questions of him
- Jared, when asked about Matt's buff physique, commenting on how it's not hard to build up muscle on a 5'4" frame LOL
Another fun moment came during a semi-serious response to a question for both guys about what outlandish gifts have they received from overzealous fans. Jensen's plea of "please don't send spells to my parents!" was delivered with deadpan hilarity but it also reminded us, or me at least, how off limits the boys' families should remain to fandom.
I also really enjoyed Jensen's insightful responses to questions about his directing experience and how things have changed since Sera has taken over as show-runner. These responses were very open and honest and I for one greatly appreciated his candor.
The panel was finished all too soon but it was thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyable and most definitely the highlight of the con for me. Well, that, and sharing good times with my friends.
Brock Kelly was up next and clearly didn't know what to expect of his very first con experience. Everyone was gentle with him and, though he was a bundle of nerves, I think we con-goers can agree that he was adorable, sweet and more gorgeous than expected. Damn, he looks younger than his 25 years! I'm glad to see that's he's signed up for more cons because I think, now that he's survived his first con and relaxes more, the fans will get to see more and more of his fun side, because the glimpses of it that he gave us on this Sunday were extremely appealing.
After Brock's panel was over we had the autograph sessions, with Jensen up first and then Jared. Jensen had taken of his jacket for this and was wearing a basic grey t-shirt a la Everyone Loves a Clown. Yeah, Jensen in a single layer is definitely a sight to behold. He was gracious with everyone, even as he shot down the girl in front of me who asked for a hug. I got major eye contact from him before and after he signed my s4 DVD insert and this time I was a little more coherent in my "hi, Jensen" and "thank-you for coming again". In both cases he responded with warm and generous answers, truly focusing his attention on me and, once again, I left his table feeling like a babbling 13 yr old fangirl LOL.
While waiting in line for Jared's signature, I turned my attention to the opposite side of the room where Jensen's t-shirt clad back was in view, hunched over the table while signing his remaining autographs. Guh! Okay, so I'm going there again… the man is simply magnificent, what can I say?! Jared was in wonderfully welcoming Texan mode, with a, "no, thank y'all for coming" when I gave him thanks for doing the con. He was sporting his dimpled, brilliant smile and was his adorable handsome self.
After the boys were done autographs, Jared had a second set of photo ops and
writerinchains (thanks, girl!) and I proceeded to that line to take a shot together. This was my third con with Jared and my last photo op (possibly ever) and I felt extremely relaxed for it. Jared is a huge, gorgeous man but, whether it's his puppy-dog persona or that I simply fell mind numbingly head over heels for that other Winchester instead, I didn't tense up for the shot and, as a result, came away with what is probably my best con photo op to date:
I missed some of John Marcynuk's panel, SPN's Art Director, and that's a shame because what I caught of it and his photographic presentation was terrific. Very insightful and I really enjoyed listening to him detailing the choices they make for sets, the process, and of course getting to see the behind-the-scenes photos he had, including many of Jensen's directorial debut with the show.
And then that was that. The con for 2010 was over for me, though there still was plenty of time for socializing. My roomies and I went to dinner at Earl's and had great meals, wonderful margaritas and a really super time. On our way out the door we ran into
morganslady and some friends and had a bit of a chat. Thanks to
morganslady PM'ing me during the con, I was able to track her down earlier, introduce myself and chat a bit but it was great to see her again and it gave nonnie a chance to introduce herself too.
Though beat and due to get up very early Monday, inchains and I stayed up until after 11:00pm to pick up the Jared photo op. Once collected, we headed back to our room and to sleep. She and nonnie were going to have to leave about 5:30 the next morning and I would be heading for the airport at 7:15am.
Though I've been busy as hell since returning from BC, I'm still basking in the fun that was VanCon 2010 and writing this report has helped bring back all the fond memories… good times, gorgeous men (and ladies!) and great friends. I'm missing everyone already.
