I totally agree with you. I'm tired of the artificially inflated sense of nationalism and the pompous posturing as well. The day hasn't been about the people that were actually affected by the attacks for a while now-- it's become about using the day for selfish purposes, both on grand and small scale. I'm not going to go further into it.
Me on 9/11, I was in Fresno, getting ready to go to work at the IRS. The government closed the processing center for the day, and I watched tv about it for a while. I could have been on the net looking for real-time info and chatting with people about it, but to be honest-- at the time, I didn't think much of it. It was a WTF kind of day, but it didn't send me into a spiral of terror like the little old ladies who thought "they" were gonna fly a plane into our branch (out of all the service centers and government buildings spread out all over the country-- our little craphole was an appropriate target apparently)...
