Hey Lesley-Anne,

I'm not really sure about your question, but I can sort of give you an answer (sort of). Basically what the professor meant was that the work is more concerned with having fun than making you feel a certain way. You could say it makes unconsciously emotional, because you are atributing your own meaning to the words, and are therefore instilling their meaning with your own emotion. But mostly it's just a bit of silliness really.

Also, a brief word on works appearing to be light when in fact they aren't. A good example of this is Gulliver's Travels. Each of the different peoples in the story represent a different aspect of English life. It's supposed to be all fun and games, but it is actually kind of serious. I think the same can be said for parts of Alice and Wonderland, but not Jabberwocky itself. The part with Humpty Dumpty might be a parody of say, literary students, but the poem itself is pure nonsense. ;D

Hi Lesley-Anne, I must say that I found your post very thought provoking. Also, on answering you question I find that I agree with Meaghan's take on the unconsciously emotional. You do shape the meaning of things by your own emotions. Great work! :)

I am uncertain of your question. But I agree that non-sense poetry is much more than simple fun. I explain further in my most recent post, which will be going up shortly.
