Oh Lesley-Anne, I think I love you for quoting the Labyrinth as I love that movie! David Bowie in tights showing off his package at the most inopportune times, poor Hoggle! Anyway, I have a question, since the Professor isn't lecturing on 'The Wasteland' til next week, what do we write about this week?
AHH! That is the worst part of that whole movie. *shudder*
I'm really glad I didn't miss the lecture on The Waste Land. It's seriously one of my FAVORITES. So, I am hoping that knowing I have a second crack at this lecture will be enough to get me up out of bed next monday. (fingers crossed)
I liked what you said about the period T.S. was writing in, Lesley-Anne. I think what also might put it in perspective for people (because I know this helped me) was that Eliot was one of the first people to use a typewriter. You can see this directly in The Waste Land. There are all-caps used as a stylistic approach to convey meaning. The typewriter allowed for these kinds of things, and changed the way poets looked at the page. Eee! I'm just so excited for this poem. You guys have no idea.
well Tricia I suggest talking about whatever it is you want that relates to literature or specifically poetry. I mean last week I commented on 'The Libertine because I wanted to and it was relevant. Or you could do the unthinkable and bring The Iliad into this class discussion, few have attempted to do so, but it would fit. Take Care -Lesley-Anne P.S.-I'm glad Meag is excited for the poem, I on the other hand am dreading the depth of discussion.
Thanks for the information about the film watched in tutorial, I may refer to them in my post. I am so glad I can still hear a lecture on "The Wasteland". Frankly, when I read it, I was left confused and in need some clarification. Thus, I couldn't be more happy that I will be getting some answers tomorrow.
