Think Caro wanted someone "solid" by her side and Jacob seemed the perfect reliable, trustworthy, reasonable and strong guy out of the three brothers. She never bothered to dig any deeper so her outrage at not knowing him -while yes, the circumstances are harsh and she's understandably scared- are a bit... they grew up together, he's always been like this even if he never had cause to snap that bad. Caro was happy with appearances as I see it D:

It's true Caro and Zeb seem very close, in a way that doesn't really sound like sibling affection... but I don't like her at all so maybe I'm biased XD

I found the whole marriage thing a bit weird. It didn't seem like there was any real love in it; passion at least from Jacob's side, yes, but he was a young man at that point so it's perfectly understandable.

To me, it seemed not unlike arranged marriages. And really at that point, for both, there wwasn't much other choices.
