Threesome For Great Justice!

Almost done with Tanya Huff's Smoke and Ashes. Sad, really. It's always been the great tragedy of my life that I read too fast, and I'm done with good books before I'm ready to let them go.

So, okay. Anyone who's not yet read the Smoke and... series... why not? Seriously, the best way to describe this series is that it totally reads like original fanfic. And I mean that in the best possible way. Ferfuckssake, it's a series about vampires and wizards and demons set against the backdrop of Canadian television production. What the hell more do you want?

I've been amusing myself by casting Canadian actors as the characters. Lee Nicholas is, of course, Nicholas Lea. And Jack Elson is totally Callum Keith Rennie. I'm not just imagining things here, people. He's RCMP, he has blond spiky hair and golden stubble, he's vaguely sexually ambiguous (though Tony keeps insisting he's straight); it's there in the text. And he plays accordion! God, the love.

Still not sure who should play Tony and Henry and Amy and CB and Zev. Geraint Wyn Davies for Mason, obviously, seeing as the show is such a takeoff on Forever Knight. And judging by Slings & Arrows, Davies apparently has no problems playing the blowhard full-of-himself actor type. Kismet! Fate! Et cetera.

Little bits of dialogue that amuse me:

Tony: "I was with Constable Elson because we were having hot Mountie sex in the cab of his truck."

Mmm, hot Mountie sex.

Also Tony: "...due south down Boundary to North Fraser Way."

*snerk*

In conclusion: fucking read it, people. Especially Liz and Anna. I'd offer to lend you my books, except I gave the first one to Ray and she's in California now, and the second one's still in Maryland, so, in this order:

Smoke and Shadows
Smoke and Mirrors
Smoke and Ashes

Also? Tony's gay.

And did I mention the Canadian televison? And Constable Jack Elson?

Le w00t.
