Okay, so:
If warriors used to eat their enemies to absorb their powers and make themselves stronger, what does it say about me, and about our culture in general, that our main protein source is chicken? How would I be different if I ate, say, bear and mountain lion on a regular basis instead?

Part of the belief comes from the killing of the enemy itself. We are eating merely for sustenance. We don't kill the enemy (or the food), so there's no reason to believe that it makes us stronger. Mountain lion would indeed just make you broke.
If you killed the bear and mountain lion on your own, then you would be justified in eating your prey's heart in an 'unofficial' ritual. How much stronger would it make you? It would give you more confidence that you have killed before and can kill again. Your skills would increase accordingly from that increase in confidence.

If a person's main source of protein were something like, oh, maybe peanut butter, what would that say about them? And can you absorb the power of what you eat if you didn't kill it yourself? Would I have to mash the peanuts myself? I think some health food stores let you do that, but I don't know of any place that would let you kill your own chicken... although Dad has some chickens...
