I haven't actually played the game, in fact, I'd barely heard of it, so I read the review you posted. It actually isn't a review of gameplay like its title suggests, it's more of a bitch fest about Spore's gay copyright management. So I clicked on their link provided and they actually only give it the same complaints as IGN or Gamespot do (who reviewed it with 8.8 and 8.0 scores respectively, which is "great"), and that is that the early levels seem a little dull but build you up for the more hardcore gameplay of the end stages.

I don't know, I'd give it a shot. Seems kinda fun. :)
