[ Meiling extended the invitation for many reasons: convenience, respect, guilt. Her behavior could be excused, perhaps, but the following radio silence? That was all her doing.

While everyone is gathering, she busies herself in the kitchen, preparing especially bitter tea for herself, and trying her hand at cookies. They're actually not bad, if one likes walnuts with their chocolate chips.

But of course she doesn't have to sit there in front of the stove and actually watch them bake. No, she does that because she is making herself as scarce as possible at the moment. ]

[The little vampire peers inside when the door part on the front folds down, but not too close. The burst of heat makes her flinch back again.]

It's hot inside!

[From this Flandre concludes that trying to touch it would be a bad idea.]

Mm, very hot! You always have to be careful and let someone else handle the food when it comes out. [ She sets the sheet down on top to cool, and closes the door. Then she makes pinching motions with her mittened hands. ] These help keep it from burning me when I remember them...

...Meiling has lobster hands.

[This is the most important thing about this conversation.]

[ She just giggles and slips the mittens off so she can pet Flandre on the head. ] Why don't you wait in the living room with the rest? I'll bring these out in a few minutes.

[Oh, so not pincers after all. Pincers were not so nice to touch. Flandre smiles and leans up a bit under Meiling's hand.]

Okay, Meiling.

[Though she takes a bit longer to actually move, she does eventually toddle off into said room. Headpets were as encouraging as they were comforting, at least for a minute or so.]

Meiling.

[There is a rather stern-looking little vampire staring at you.]

[ She flinches and slowly turns around, still in her crouching position. Her knees hit the floor and, soon after, so does her head as she bows down.

Here comes the scolding she rightly deserves... ]

[The vampire takes a deep breath and lets out a long suffering sigh as she approaches the kneeling youkai, stopping just before her]

...thank you.

Meiling.

[There's that tone of command]

I said, thank you.

[ She stops, swallowing that last word and brings her head up. ]

--you did?

Yes. Now get up.

Yes! [ And she gets to her feet, quickly. ] I... guess this is the worst welcome to give you. [ Frowning. ] Not like this town cares about that sort of thing, but I didn't want you to see me like that.

Mm, indeed. Though I'm grateful to you for saving my life, Meiling, your state was rather shameful. Just what in the world was wrong with you?

[ She glanced away, wringing her hands together nervously in front of her chest. ] ...I'm sure you know all about the milk by now, right? [ Meiling overheard the talking, but didn't step in. ]
