event: it came from the dairy aisle

Oct 30, 2011 23:56

[At 11:59 PM on Saturday, there's a loud whirring sound in the sky. One of the spaceships wobbles and then crashes dramatically to earth, landing just outside Mayfield near the entrance to the highway ( Read more... )

[Egon isn't in a costume and he isn't here for the party. The event that just occurred has left him curious and he has his ridiculously huge PKE meter built with 1950's technology hanging on his shoulder, using the large gathering of people to his advantage and taking as many readings as he can.

He's taking a break from his "work" and stands next to the treats table, trying to look like he's not eating as much candy as he is.]

[He looks up curiously to see who the candy giver is and smiles when he sees angel Ilsa.]

Thank you.

You passing these out?

They're the ones I made, kind of a tradition on my mama's side of the family.

[ Will the PKE react as another appears in her hand? ]

[It sure does. The meter whirs excitedly and Egon looks just in time to catch a surprisingly strong reading, though it only lasts a moment.]

Impressive.

... Are able to conjure things? [She just keeps surprising him and it makes him ever more eager to study her... as hesitant as she might be.]

I'm not that powerful, no - these are ones I made earlier in the week, I'm just fetching them from the kitchen counter, one at a time.

[ No big deal, the shrug says. ]

Still, quite a feat.

[He smells the sugar skull curiously. Yep, smells like pure sugar. Oh boy.]

I get the feeling you haven't shown me the full extent of your abilities. It seems every time I see you, you show me something new. You're not doing it on purpose because you don't like scientists, are you?

[ Ilsa slides her arm around his waist, and smiles up at him. ]

Part of it is because I don't have my full abilities. I'm still stretching into what I used to be able to do... and part of it I'm so used to hiding what I can do.

[ She gives him a small squeeze. ] ...and there's a little bit of it that comes from me wanting to be your friend instead of just a subject of study.

[Egon is slowly getting used to Ilsa's closeness and even enjoys it now. There really is something about this human contact thing that's actually very nice. He nods in understanding and gently rubs her shoulders.]

My friends are my study subjects. It just means I find them interesting. Take it as a compliment?

Okay. I know that I will probably never be a hard-line research fellow, because it's hard for me to ignore avoidable pain.

[ She stretches up to kiss him on the cheek. ]

[Appears genuinely confused.] Who said anything about pain?

I did. I'm the empath that works in psychiatric wards and emergency rooms. I'm pretty well shielded for that, but I can see there could be a need for me to be unshielded for part of the testing.

[ Ilsa hugs him again, rubbing his back and projecting warmth and comfort. ]

Mama always says to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

[That warmth is nice and Egon relaxes noticeably. The close, warm body does a lot to help that too. He's comforted by her now, rather than being uneasy. He's surprised at what a nice feeling it is to have someone who will do that for you.]

I don't think I'd want to run any tests that would be painful for you. [She's probably the first person he's ever said that to.]

[ She eases off the projection a little, but remains closely wrapped with him. ]

There might be a few that surprise us, but knowing that you have no intent to harm is a relief.

[Raises an eyebrow.]

What- you thought I was going to harm you at some point?

Before I knew you, maybe.

[ She leans back to smile up at him. ]

I just hope you don't get too carried away, hon.

[He has to pause and maybe look a little guilty. Getting carried away is something he has trouble with. He quickly tries to throw in something to put her at ease.]

That's what I have Ray and Peter there for.
