IMPORTANT DISCUSSION / VOTING

Jan 01, 2012 12:00

We'll be making some very important decisions on the future of the game following this post. Please read it and give your selections a lot of consideration!

Some background on the issue:So, about a week ago, Livejournal instituted a massive change of the comment pages. The old style of comment pages (which most players used by selecting 'turn off ( Read more... )

Release 88 has seriously killed my drive to play in all my games, as much as I want to roleplay with my friends. I guess you could say I'm allergic to change, but I personally find the new comment pages difficult to use.

I'd also like Mayfield to be a community-based game since it's gotten so big that no one ever updates their friendslist anymore anyway... I just check the main community! Making the game a community-based one would make posts of new and old members alike easier to keep track of.

Personal feelings: a week ago I didn't really want to move. What's convinced me is that there are many games that are moving, so it's looking like the majority of the rp community will be using DW in the future if things continue. It just seems like it makes sense to use the platform that most games will be using in terms of convenience for players and attracting new players. But I would also be okay with staying if that's what people want to do.

It will be kind of a disruption and work to move but I don't think it will be that bad. Anyway, I'm paid through June on this account, but I'm still fine with moving (and I was able to import my entries and comments just fine). But I know it's a much bigger deal to those of you with multiple paids.

On the journal style issue: I kind of like the new comment pages personally! But I tag on the phone a lot, so I still prefer to use something besides them. If we stay, hoping for the new option to happen, but who knows when that will be.

Also, if you're picking that you'd like to stay or like to stay a journal style game, it'd be super helpful for me if you could share your reasoning? I want to make sure there aren't any problems or objections I haven't thought of.

I really would prefer to move, as I've already imported most of my stuff over to DW. Plus, with so many games already moving over there (including CFUD!!) I can't see a good future for LJ rp at this point.

Although if the game decides to stay well, I'll be okay with it so long as LJ doesn't also fuck with custom comment layouts further.

Why didn't you guys tell us you were considering moving while Dreamwidth still had free invites available? Why did you wait until the day after this promotion ended to tell us we might be moving?

You can still create an account for free.

For now

How many icons does a free journal offer over there?

Not the same person, but Dreamwidth allows 15 icons for a free account. Incidentally, if you do end up needing an invite, feel free to hit me up, my main account has like 15.

I'd honestly prefer to stay, but this just could be because I don't feel like spending a month moving all of my character accounts / icons / whatnot over and blowing more money on paid time and icon space over there when I've still got time left on my accounts on LJ.

Additionally, I think it's really kind of rude that the mods put this post up the day after it's no longer possible to make accounts at DW without invite codes. At the very least, it would have been nice to have a post a week or so ago saying 'hey guys, we're thinking about this, maybe you should go get some DW accounts.'

I'm sorry about that, but the reason isn't because we wanted to inconvenience you. It's because we've all been traveling, and we only decided a couple days ago that we were for sure even going to poll on this issue. I think people would have felt frustrated if we'd said we might move before even giving a chance for discussion. Getting invite codes for DW isn't difficult, and for me, codeless account creation still appears to be on.

You can still create free DW accounts right now.

And I think the reasoning behind waiting was because of the holidays, and so people wouldn't make heated decisions.

That isn't at all what we intended. We've all been busy, and it's the holidays; we purposefully waited until everything calmed down.

You might like to know that DW staff has also been gracious about giving out invite codes to players of games that are porting over. We will be looking into that.
