BL live action film: Ai no kotodama

Oct 15, 2009 22:57

BL stands for Boys Love, which is the term used in Japanese for m/m slash mostly written by and dedicated to women readers. And I just watched an adapted film that was originally a comic.

I haven't read the original comic, but the cinematography was really beautiful and the plot, it was a slice of life that's not particularly dramatic or scandalous, yet very thought provoking. It made me reflect on a lot of things. How trivial things, apparently uneventful things, feed your everyday happiness.

Too beautiful to be a blatant gay film, especially the lovemaking scene was very tame that I can hardly call it lovemaking, more like flirting, but it wasn't disappointing at all. On the contrary, as awkward as it were for two straight actors pretending to be gay(to be honest), it was such a tender and sweet scene that really made me want to see it over and over.

You can watch the whole film on Youtube with English Subs. The film is called "Ai no Kotodama", translated into "Words of Devotion" as its English title. But what it really means is the "Power of words of love". "Kotodama" means the power that has words, by uttering the words out loud, you're releasing the power to the outer world. And in this case it's the power of love. Beautiful title, ne? It will make sense in the first few minuets into the film.

Somehow Youtube is being b0tchy and appears with the Java Script off and won't let me see or copy anything, but here's a teaser. By clicking the image, you can go to the YouTube site with lots of links from the film. If you are into procrastination, this is one great way to spend your time.
