Crash and burn

My computer's anti-virus renovation due date passed for a few weeks now. Before that, I was absent for about 3 weeks from home between a visit to my mum's place for my grandma's 49th Day Memorial and a business trip, I came back to find my computer infected by Trojan viruses and was doing funny things it normally wouldn't do. It wasn't as virulent ( Read more... )

Please allow me to take this opportunity to HIGHLY reccomend Eset's NOD32. For about the same price as Norton or MacAffee, you'll get an excellent, non-invasive, low-profile protection system that is miles above and beyond the others in performance quality.

I have never seen Eset slow down or choke up my system processes -- and I'm running a 7 year old machine, mind, so even iTunes can make it choke, -- and I've had Eset catch stuff that gets through my browser engines and e mail scrubbers, and firewall altogether. It was DEFINITELY worth the money.

Google it. You'll be glad you did.

Oooh, I have heard of NOD32, come to think of it, mother is using it. I didn't know it was as good tho'. I definitely take a look and see if I can find it in my nearest shop! If I'm to invest, it ought to be worth the money *nods* Thanks for the heads up!

If you're looking for freeware, I'd definitely recommend AVG http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage It's brilliant and I use it on all my computers. My dad recommended it to me, and he's an IT tech, so it must be good!

This is also good...

It's an online virus and spyware scan, so should hopefully get rid of everything that your installed anti-virus isn't picking up.

There's also Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html for spyware and Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/ for malware.

Hope that you get it fixed soon!

Thanks muchly for the heads up. That AVG is a freeware is certainly eye catching *g* Will definitely have a look.

Ooh, and that Malwarebytes is already installed; great minds think alike, eh? Hopefully in a few weeks time, all this fuss gets sorted out. :D

I second AVG - I was infected with a trojan a year ago from a banner add. The trojan was hours old and I hadn't updated my signature files first (stupid move before going to a dl site, but live and learn).

The trojan ended up in system restore files, and during a scan a few days later, AVG found it there and cleaned it from the system restore file too.

Plus it's free.

And I always scan once a week with Malewarebytes (free version).

Another vote for AVG is a good sign :D Maybe I don't have to spend so much money for Anti-virus license that only lasts one year after all. Once the trial version's time limit comes, I'll install AVG! :D

Thanks for the heads up!

Aww... thanks. Hopefully, by the time I send in my submission, my computer is virus free. But some of the given prompts are so shiny *_* Me wants, me wants! Can't wait to get my assignment *flails*

Arrgh, but I've been a bad player, I admit. I'll try my best to make it on-time this time!

Awww, you're too kind. But I must abide by the rules, so I'll try and be a good girl. At any rate, I'll be in touch with you so that you know what's going on. The last thing I want to do is drop out. >_<

How many participants are there so far, by the way? By the looks of it, you guys are going to be really busy with the lot of us :D I solemnly swear not to drive you mad. Er, I'll try not to. XD
