I was so confused about the hex bag. How did it even fit into a working cellphone?
I liked the idea of Sarah being used in Crowley's play, but I think they could have gotten more emotional oomph out of (a) introducing her earlier, as you suggest, and (b) revealing that actually, she was leading a happy life, completely bucking the Winchester curse -- until now *dramatic music*
Wasn't it odd though? They had a bunch of really good story points, but somehow they didn't all quite sync together. It's like all the ideas left over in the writer's notebooks.
It was a rather uneven, almost rambling episode, wasn't it? I enjoyed it a lot, but it was a little trippy trying to follow all the threads that came and went at random.
I thought it was Sarah's house phone that had the hex bag in it. That seemed to be what Dean answered when Crowley called, but I could be wrong. Though honestly, I'm not sure how they fit a hex bag into that, either. *demons! handwave*
Nephilim? Only one? As in the trials to shut the doors to heaven has only one first key to get the party started? Really?
Yeah, that seemed really odd to me, too. Especially with as wild as the angels have been going for a while now, you'd think Castiel would have his pick of nephilim.
I'm waiting to see where they get the purified blood from. Somehow I don't think Dean or Sam going to confession is going to cut it.
I was trying to imagine that -- they would need a hardy priest with a lot of time and coffee to take that confession!
I totally agree with everything you said, it was really rushed and so many things going on. I really want an unexpected wrench to just launch itself into their world because I feel like nothing moved me in that episode.

But yeah. Interesting elements. Odd as a whole.

I'm still thinking that the show ended Season 5. That's my story.
