♥ KATO SHIGEAKI PIMP POST ♥
SHIGE
Kato Shigeaki or 加藤成亮, most commonly known as Shige (and sometimes also as Shigeako, Shigemi, Mr Kato, Kato-kun, and Ge-shi). Born July 11th 1987, making him 23 years of age at this very moment. Left handed, allergic to cats, has a dog named Nana, and can stuff a lot of food into his mouth at one go.
Shige was a mere 12 years old when he first joined J&A in 1999, where he was shuffled in and out of a number of junior groups, one of the bettet known ones being KKKity with Koyama Keiichirou and Kusano Hironori, who later became his fellow NEWS members.
Now, to stop this from turning into a Wikipedia page, I will gladly tell you that Shige during his younger days was all sorts of awkward adorable, from what I've heard and seen, of course, if you'll accept my opinion based off Johnny's Sports Day 2003, old episodes of Ya-Ya-Yah, and YouTube.
SMILE
Okay. If there's anythig I love about Shige (and what every one should love about him) it's gotta be his smile. Personally, i think he has this KILLER SMILE that hasn't changed much (unlike his teeth. /cough) over the years. I got to know of Shige loooong after his junior days, but I do know that his smiles are just blinding. I don't know how he does it! It's just like, WHAM. His smile isn't neccesarily sexy or confident or suggestive (unless he wants to be, of course), but all of the smiles I've deemed real always look happy and slightly bashful :Db It is true that his fellow NEWS members say that he can put on a smile for the fans, but it't not the "Shige the idol" smile I like, but the "just Shige" smile.

This isn't about Shige at all. But his smile is amazing in this and at the time he was... 18? ATTITUDE
Personally, I find Shige absolutely hilarious. Half of the time I spend loving him is spent laughing at him, because he is hilarious. For one thing, he has changed a lot since the formation of News, and I can tell you that the Shige we see now is one that only appeared after NEWS' hiatus back in '05. He's a lot more confident, and i think he may have grown up quite a lot during the hiatus and when he decided to do law in Aoyama. He's also just a tad bit of a narcissist, at times.

This... This really really cracked me up because he acts like he's a big shot but in truth, he isn't. This is where the narcissism is seen, and it's just so funny and "I RAISE ME UP". He talks about his feelings and how he actually thinks of himself as ELITE for certain reasons. He also talks about his time in the Jimusho as a Junior, NEWS' debut (even though his dream team debut would have been with Yabu, HIkaru and Koyama), the setbacks NEWS experienced when they went on hiatus after Uchi and Kusano's suspension, and briefly on the sadness he and Koyama felt backstage when Ryo, Yamapi and Tegomass were performing at Countdown with Kanjani8, as a solo artist and duo. He speaks with a somewhat arrogance which is actually more silly and endearing than condescending, and even calls himself a wimp, so it's all good.

I have got to tell you that this kind of blew my mind the many times i watched it. Basically an episode of SC that NEWS guested in, where they pick Shige to do a different photo pose every few seconds accordig to a timer. Shige decides to do things his own way, and doesnt get very far (or rather, not far enough for us fangirls :D)

KOYAMA and KOYASHIGE
Koyama is Shige's his bffl, and I mean, best friend for life in the sense that bffl = hetero life partner and therefore, they are totally married. I didn't really want to touch the subject of their friendship yet, and I will go into details a little later concerning Koyama, but he deserves a mention at this moment to stop any confusion that comes along on the way.

- Wagahai wa Shige de aru
Is Shige's JWEB. The title was most like likely based off the Japanese novel Wagahai wa Neko de aru, or I am a Cat, by Soseki Natsume. While that's all nice and good, what if I told you that his JWEB is written in from the point of view of Shige's IMAGINARY pet cat, called Wagahai? I tell you no lie. Shige does like cats, but can't keep one because he's allergic to them. Thus, Wagahai was born! Shige just... well. Talks about life. And Koyama. A lot about Koyama. Shige's JWEB could actually be renamed "The Married Chronicles of KOYASHIGE!" and it wouldn't be far from the truth, really. It's pretty well known that Shige goes over to Koyama's and brings Wagahai to have play dates with Koyama's real pet cat, Nyanta.

Shige is also one of the few J&A boys who likes to fish (eg, Domoto Tsuyoshi of KinKi Kids and Arashi's Ohno Satoshi), and he has mentioned it before in interviews as well as concert MCs and such. He's known to go fishing with Arashi's Ohno a lot, just that Shige hasn't turned a nice, toasty shade of sunburn yet. Shige and Ohno seem to interact on the Wink-Up Message Boards quite a bit, and has even tried to protect Ohno from the ever dysfunctional relationship that is Ohmiya.

PERFORMANCES & SOLO SONGS
If there's anything I can say it's that SHIGE is a good performer. Sure, watching him in PVs and stuff, you get the perfectly made up face, but watching Shige live is something special to me, because he commits himself to it. He really is commited to his job, and he was NEWS' wardrobe coordinator in for the NEWS Winter Party Diamond concerts. His performances are great, and I think his solo songs are amazing. Some are written by him, and performed with anything from a guitar, a mic to a tambourine.
- Kuchizuke wo.
Say. It. With. Me. If you're new to NEWS and or Shige, this is one thing you must know, because it is amazing. "Kuchizuke wo" comes from Shige's part in NEWS' I.ZA.NA.I.ZU.KI, that goes "katariau kotoba wo atsumeru yori kuchizuke wo", which translates to "rather than gathering words to speak, just use a kiss".
So when Shige gets to "kuchizuke wo", he slowly drags his hand from his wrist to his fingertips under his lower lip, and faces the camera with smouldering eyes. Which... Leaves you without a functioning brain for a while and a hot and bothered feeling.

I love this song. It's always been one of my favourites, but SHIGE made this performance memorable for me because he decided to be a 100% sensual-being in this. He has his left hand holding the standing mic and his right holding the mic stand, then he drags his right hand up the stand and laces his fingers together over the mic. It blows my mind. Every. Single. Time.

This is the most amazing piece of work he's ever ever produced, and Shige plays 7 different alter-egos in this: a karaoke joint waiter, a pretty school girl called Shigemi, an office worker, a host, an otaku, a foreigner, and a visual kei artist :DDD this PV is nothing shirt of fun and amazing, and Shige is pretty fabulous in it. KOYASHIGE
Truthfully, I have just been waiting to write this section since I got the idea of this pimp post in my head. I just love these two so much. I'd say they're my ultimate J&A OTP, partially because they are meant for each other and also because Arashi is an OT5 and I will never be able to choose an OTP out of that. Koyashige are married. Really.
Koyama, Shige, and Kusano were really close since the formation of KKKity before NEWS, and when Kusano was suspended, Shige and Koyama were the ones that cried together when Johnny told them that NEWS's activity would be cancelled for a year. Koyama and Shige have been friends since Shige was 13 and Koyama was 16 back in good old 2000, and it's pretty obvious they're close. If you don't believe me, you obvious wasn't paying attention when I went on about Wagahai and Nyanta having play dates. It practically screams a sneaky metaphor for Koyashige going out, really! Also, did you not read about how Shige knows exactly what food Koyama eats? Then again, a fangirl can only dream, sometimes :D
Or maybe some of you would prefer a slightly different relationship along the lines of this, perhaps? Cough.
Koyama would like to interupt my fantasies to tell you that, yes, he will choke on his food everytime beautiful Shigeako the GEISHA steps into the room with a kimono on. This has been a public announcement brought to you by Koyashige: Caring for the Community.
Johnny also very obviously approves of them, because he lets them have duets which are awesome. Koyashige did not get a studio version of a new duet in their newest album, however, they did perform their new duet in the recent NEWS LIVE Tour concerts :D The song is called Iitai Dake, and is said to be hilarious, as usual, and it clearly is, looking at their outfits for it:

This is the very video that made me ship Koyashige. Koyashige basically have a slumber party in their hotel room in Kagoshima. There is jumping on beds, giggles, ashtrays and traumatised hotel staff. Koyashige also parody Tegomass' and Yamapi's songs by making their own music videos using various... Props in the form of lamps, chairs, pillows and dustbins.

On Koyama's birthday, Shige also told him that people with birthdays on April 30th (Koyama) and July 11th (Shige) are destined to be together, according to a fortune telling book :D
If you've looked at all the scans so far, you'd have noticed that in 2007/2008 Shige usually wore two rings; the belt shaped one in his second finger of his right hand and another one on his left pinky. The belt-shaped one is supposedly connected to Koyama, ie. he gave it to him, etc etc. This is just speculation though, and I think it was because of a photo of Koyama's hand that Shige took where Koyama was wearing the same ring? More fangirly dreams :D
Basically Shige and Koyama are just totally in tune with each other. They even went to New York together on a trip, and ended up piling up pillows as a pillow-fort between them because there was only one bed. Not that it was very effective :D Photos of Koyama taken by Shige in New York were also used for Koyama's CALL stageplay's promotional goods.
OTHER INTERACTIONS
- Tegoshi
The two of them are total brats when they're together; it has to do with the fact that they're the youngest two in the group, for sure :D Things always happen between them in the documentaries of their tours, like in N.E.W.S when they went to annoy visit Koyama who was being isolated because he was sick. In Pacific, Tegoshi decides to perform ~magic~, says the word "BELIEVE" a lot, and tries to make a sleepy Shige levitate while he pulls his chairs away. In NWPD, Tegoshi and Shige ganged up with a roll of duct tape and taped Yamapi's boots to the floor, as well as tape Koyama's luggage bag shut.

This is only going to be here because I know a lot of people like Nishikato. I'm not saying I don't, but I still prefer Koyashige any day :D I don't have much about RyoShige interactions, I can just tell you that at a point they supposedly hated each other, they're kinda awkward towards each other, Ryo has stuffed a lot of food in Shige's mouth in the Pacific Documentary, and in all actuality, I think they actually get along swimmingly, so, yay.

This is really the most hilarious game. NEWS sit in a row in blindfolds with voice-changing mics. They then get to answer honestly the questions asked by Nakamaru. Talks about Shige's awkwardness towards Ryo and vice versa, how Koyama gets shivers from Shige's fake drama smile, how Tegoshi gets shivers from Shige's "kuchizuke wo", and how Massu is annoyed by Shige's accent dance. Basically it's one large, fun, Shige teasing session. There is more of course, but this ~is~ Shige pimp post, and you should watch it for yourself!

They're all good friends, really. Personally, I think Shige is one of the closest to Massu in NEWS and I am almost sure they're good friends. Yamapi is the one that always brings Shige out to dinner and such.
- NEWS
You should all watch their tour documentaries. But for now, I really do recommend that you watch the NEWS Winter Party Diamond MC. It is hilarious, and Shige is just so fail in it, you will not stop laughing. First Shige teases Koyama about how he says "kansha, kangeki, ame, arashi", which is the title of an Arashi song, instead of the actual "kansha, kangeki, ame, arare" which is an actual idiom.
Koyama doesn't know how to react because usually it's Shige on the receiving end of the teasing. Shige then says he saw an uchiwa that said "Shige is my 3rd favourite". All hell breasks loose and Shige gets beaten pretty bad by EVERYONE because they all tease him. This MC also mentions everyone's inability to say no to Tegoshi because he is TeGOD.
I love them, they love each other, the world is happy and full of Koyama's membaa-ai.
