Which one? I didn't have trouble with any boss except Magus (due to poor planning; I completely neglected to bring Frog to Spekkio until after I beat him) and Lavos in the Ocean Palace (although that battle is unwinnable until you play it in New Game +).

It was the golem twins. I beat them now, but it was harder because I pretty much never used Lucca up until that point.
