After several of my friends chided me for not going to see Transformers during its opening week, I finally sucked it up and went last night

I feel like it went on for about 45 minutes too long. It wasn't bad, much better then I had expected it to be (I had ZERO interest in seeing it). But by the last 45 minutes I was freezing cold, my legs were aching, and I just wanted to go to bed.
I saw it extremely exhausted and not really in the mood and thought it was ok. Whenever I read people's gripes about the movie I can't really go against them, they are mostly spot on.
As far as product placement goes though Hasbro has made no bones about the fact that licensing/merchandising is their bread and butter. The sheer amount of Transformers merch choking aisles right now is staggering and ridiculous. But they Hasbro is in it for the $$ and for that I can't fault them for that. It doesn't detract from the movie in any way for me.
The model designs are again based on licenses and if VW wanted it they could have stepped up and made Bumblebee a classic beetle. But as it stands they want nothing to do with lasers or guns and opted out due to the violence of the property. Updated molds/takes/revisions/ of classic characters is always welcome as far I'm concerned.
But yeah, hey, this is Adam Background hijacking your lj for a minute. I don't hate you. What's up.
Despite my love of VW, I'm not real pleased with their product placement efforts recently either. If you happened to see Knocked-Up, they had a Mark Five Jetta as the lead female's vehicle, and during one of her arguments with Seth Rogen's character, they did this ridiculous panned shot where all you could see was the front of the car gliding down the road, with two screaming heads inside. It was really obvious and kind of painful to watch

It could have been far, far worse, but I felt like it went into a lull at a few points in time, and that whole subplot with the NSA analysts & the FBI storming the guy's house because he has a PANASONIC® flash drive with government secrets on it...kind of drove me nuts. Once Megatron was freed, they never made mention of them again.
I don't know, perhaps I'm being far too critical of a film that's going to be inherently substandard.

Never hate! Just weirdness on the part of the internet. I'm fine! Better than I have been in a while. Enjoying life. How are you?
I forgot that you were kind of gearhead (sorry?). Since I'm not I guess I didn't really take issue with what make or model was represented.
