Today i received the rental application for the apartment in Baltimore that I want. I also emailed my incoming class-mates and actually got one interested response from 1 girl. We've already swapped like 2 or 3 emails about the apartment and she said had been looking into one option but hasn't signed a lease yet so she's considering the apartment

I would advise against being the only one on the lease. Mostly, because of my own experience. Your lease will probably forbid sub-leasing like that, in which case, having your own contract doesn't matter because it would be illegal.
