pole dancingok you guys, i'm ready to make a confession: i own a stripper pole. i bought it a couple weeks ago, it's up in my bedroom, and i'm learning to pole dance. i struggled with it for a while, i was kind of ashamed about it because i didn't want people to lump me in with their negative associations about strippers and sex ( Read more... )

I think there's TOTALLY NOTHING wrong with that at all. I would have never thought anything negative about it. You like to swing around a pole, big deal! It looks like fun!

you know, i totally thought of you when i was writing this! normally i'm really good at not giving a shit about what other people think about me but this time it's been really hard. i almost feel like telling people that i'm learning to pole dance is kind of like coming out, just because i'm so unsure of the reactions they'll have or what they'll think of me. just like you came out as genderqueer and it was no big deal, i can came out as a pole dancer and it's not big deal either. neither of those identities nullify the people we were before, they just add to our character. it's kind of funny that now that being gay is widely accepted, us queer folk still keep coming up with new identities to stress out over!

thanks buddy! i thought about "sharing" this but i don't know how i feel about the entirety of my facebook knowing how to easily access my lj. as silly as it seems, somehow lj still seems more personal! speaking of facebook, i noticed you are friends with my good friend brodie kelly. how the hell did that happen?!

He friended me on Facebook after I mentioned being there on LJ, I think. Not sure if I ultimately met him through your LJ or autodidactic's.

BUT I just noticed I didn't have you on my FB. How the hell did THAT happen is the better question. ;)

For me, Facebook is more personal. I guess it's because I know maybe 90% of my Facebook list IRL and only maybe 40% of my LJ.

Dude, that's totally awesome! It obviously makes you happy, and the pictures make it look like a total blast. Why should anyone judge you for doing something you enjoy?
