Ze Appointment

Andys appointment was at 4pm in the Eastern Suburbs and it's about a 40min journey at least to get there. I told Andy to be home at 2:30 because I had no idea where it was on campus and I had to give myself some time to get lost ( Read more... )

I'd say you have the same as Andy.
It's called (ba ba bahhhhhhhh) deuteranomal (Andrew's is extreme apparently).
That means that you can see what we see (Did I hear a sigh of relief?) but it takes your eyes longer to process the light waves. I'll try to explain it a little better.

You have three colour cones, one is for red, one is for green and one is for blue. There are short, medium and long light waves. While my cones can process the light waves, yours either take a little while longer or won't process it. Andrew's problem is in his green cone and I suspect given you can see all the colours I see that that's what you have too.
I don't know if you're interested but your is actually not called colour blindness, apparently it's rare to be truely colour blind. Yours would be called a colour vision defect.

Mel doesn't really need to take the test, I'll explain why further down.

Im glad you wrote details of the test. I have no idea how they do it and found it very interesting (do i sound like my mother). Poor Andy, but as i said before everything happens for a reason, sometimes it just takes a while to realise what it is.

didnt see that chris had put an update in too, by the way the one above is from me.... how can you do the test online?maybe i should be tested but remember when i was a teenager, my eyes had a kind of stroke and i have lost 30% vision in both eyes, like I can see two big black moons, one in each eye. i remember the specialist wanted me to go and be some guinea pig for uni students to test on as what happened to me only happens to old people when they have strokes. they had no record of this happening to anyone young..... gee.. im just lucky i guess (not!)

You don't need to take the test. :D You can if you like and I'll send you the link but you don't have it.

While 7% of all men are colour blind, there is only 0.4% of women who are. The only way a woman can be colour blind is if her mother is a carrier of the gene AND her father is colourblind. That combination is what makes a female colourblind.
As your father isn't colourblind, you won't be. :D
You could be a carrier though.

If we have sons, they may well be colourblind. There is actually a high possiblity they will be. The girls may be carriers due to Andrew being colourblind. I ahven't heard of anyone being colour blind in either side of my family but considering Chris and Andy didn't know then who knows. :S
