I had an automatic 95 Protege (before I got my 3) and it had the same sort of problem, though it had that problem when it was 8 years old. It wouldn't switch gears right and the RPM would go up to 5 or almost 6 sometimes. But I beat that car into the ground, so it was really my fault that it was dying.

I'm assuming you bought it used since it's a 2004. Did you get a vehicle history report? There may be something that happened before you bought it...

Yeah it was used & I have the carfax for it and it got all "ok"
It was a rental before I bought it so I think that has something to do with it.

I'm sorry I can't help you out (although sometimes when coasting down the big hill I live on, the RPMs will flutter) but your car is absolutely gorgeous. :)

My saturn would do that (RPMs would go up coasting down a hill), too.
