Fingers crossed the agency doesn't screw you around any more today...

Not exactly screwing me around. It seems more like their client is. They won't give a yes or no to the agency. I think they're probably waiting to see if the person I was s'posed to be replacing screws up again and they probably won't give the agency an answer until then.

I'm sorry to hear about the job! :(
I managed to get housing benefit for ages in Glastonbury without my landlord knowing at all. They don't have to send it to him, they can send it direct to you and then you pay the rent with it. But they may not pay you enough for the rent, because they usually have a rent inspector who then usually says you are paying too much rent!
hope SOMETHING comes up, anyway!

Thanks Rhiannon.

The thing I'm concerned about is that they will contact my landlord regarding a change of circumstances re: housing benefit, a Town Hall visitor might turn up to view the premises while he's there, he might see DWP letters arriving for me or they won't accept the hand written note I have from him. Well, I'm only paying £90/week inc., which is nothing by London standards, so I don't think they'd have any problems with that. I saw a really ghastly 'prison cell' style bedsit in Earls Court with no amenities for £105! It was awful! This is a much nicer area and a nicer flat altogether!

Oh, maybe I just worry too much!

Gosh, £90 a week??!!! that's amazing for a flat to yourself! That's even quite cheap for a room in a house! Well, I never had anyone come round and no one contacted my landlord. However I know different local authorities may do things differently.

Oh no, it's not a flat to myself! I'm lodging with the landlord! I just get a room to myself and a few cupboards in the kitchen to store things in. No way could I afford to rent a whole flat at the moment. Like I said, though, it does have character. Not quite sure where everything's going to go when I get everything out of storage though!

You've left London then? That's a surprise, but Letchworth's a whole lot nicer than Luton! Where are you living?

I certainly don't want to wait until the end of the year before I get a job!! I doubt that will happen as I've had a good few 'nearlys'. Not jobs of my dreams, but I think most unemployed people are looking for jobs way beneath themselves at the moment. And you're right. No one's job is safe at the moment, so the few people who think I'm not looking hard enough (to be honest, I couldn't really be looking harder without dropping down with exhaustion!), they'd better watch out and hope the same doesn't happen to them as they wouldn't survive!

Well, lucky I don't listen to people who keep telling me the recession's going to be around forever as I'd never get any job apps in! Yes, as you say, it's harder to find work at the moment, but not impossible! I will find something somewhere, then I can concentrate on getting back on track as regards career. I'm intelligent, with tons of qualifications. I just haven't found anything yet that appeals as a career that doesn't seem impossible to get into unless you're mega rich! Good luck with move to Letchworth. Surely is a very nice town! I visited it a lot when I was married and living in Hitchin. There are nice places out there. I've found a pretty amazing place in a very nice area of London that only costs £90/week.

Sorry to hear going so badly! Been a bit insulated from it all so far, working for the public sector (although this will prob hit us in around 18 months time when the spending freeze really starts to bite). Hope you land something soon. So you really decided not to go for nursing stuff, or have all those dried up as well?

I really can't do nursing any more. I tried twice and had to give it up twice due to health problems. It was just making me too ill and I realise now that I can't try a 3rd time. A bit devastating really as it's what I'm trained in and I'm now having to go for really menial type jobs. Also my registration lapsed last year anyway (every 3 years, nurses have to re-register, proving that they have worked enough hours in the past 5 years and have attended at least 5 training days). It costs over £100 to re-register, which obviously I don't have. Going to have to retrain in something as the thought of dead end factory jobs and office jobs for the rest of my life doesn't bear thinking about!
