*hugsback* Yeah, I know I've complained about it alot, but I'd fed up. There seems to be alot of good advice in this entry. We'll both managed to get out of this!

I find it often helps to look over how far you've progressed. Pull out some of your old art and set it beside newer stuff to get a good view of just how much you've improved.

And as I've said before, you need to tone down the stress levels in your life. Getting stressed out is the fastest way to convince yourself you can't get anything done because your mind no longer wants to handle anything else. Take a day each week to just relax and chill. Hang at the mall, go for a walk, sit around and play video games....spend the day doing things that take your mind off your worries.

Giving yourself some time to stop fretting about what can go wrong resets your mind to give you a better focus on figuring out how to make it work, instead.

I definitely know this is one reaon I don't doodle much. Even doodles feel like they have to be nice, clean, perfect to me and that stresses me out to no end. I really just need to chill and get things done.

Well then just put the pencils down for a day or two and do something none art related.

One slight suggestion... don't focus on positive affirmation stuff. While it works great on people with already high self-esteem, it kinda backfires on people without it. Even though you are indeed one of the most wonderful people I know, with exceptional talent, your brain won't let you tell yourself that anymore.

*hugs!*

Unfortunately the only way to really defeat the self-fulfilling prophecy is to break it. You already know you have it in your head, so tell yourself: "What this voice thinks doesn't matter, I'm just going to sit down and do stuff."

And then sit down and do stuff. And keep doing stuff until you have a string of successes to look back at. That's the only thing that will build your self-respect and self-esteem: is to have accomplished things.

They say that faith is the quality in man that keeps him going even when he knows everything is hopeless. You will now have to have faith that if you keep walking, there will be a light at the end of your journey, even though you can't see it now.

*hugs*

*hands you walking stick*

I know you can.

This was pretty much my experience. For me, I was terrified to try things, thinking I would fail, until all of a sudden, I succeeded at something and got a boost of confidence to try other things. (Some of those I still failed at, but most times I succeeded- I had to apply twice to get into veterinary school, but my other accomplishments gave me the confidence to apply again). The important thing is, don't stop trying because you think it will turn out badly- you're guaranteed to fail that way. I guess, if you don't give yourself a chance to succeed, you never will ( ... )

Also, your art is lovely, so don't worry that you don't have enough talent to make it as an artist! All you need is hard work and determination :).

Your words are always an inspiration to me, thank you.

Faith and perseverence. There's no easing into it like I was kind of hoping, you just need to dive in and do it.

I simply remind myself that I will be a miserable failure in life if I give up and that however unhappy I might be right now, I'll be way more unhappy if I quit.

And if you do give up, don't complain about it.

I gotta say, you're such an inspiration to me, artwise and just what I know of you and your life from your LJ. But you kind of scare me too with your intensity, haha.

Definitely words I'll keep in mind though.
