Tell the other girls under no circumstances is there going to be some big confrontation during YOUR class. Pick some other class to fight in.
Seriously, I had something like that happen in class ONE time, and the teacher put his foot down adn was like "stop all the crying and whinig, I don't care what happened, this is class time, you may cry at lunch."
And it never happened again.
See, I betcha you'll have problems again.... Because girls LOVE drama more then school...

Ignoring problems doesn't fix them.
Telling the kids to "sort it out themselves" is not a very good way to handle things (see Lord Of The Flies).
It is my responsibility as a teacher to make sure the kids are not sad as well as it is to teach them stuff.
Did you know that in the international PESA-test, where Denmark didn't score top-points but was in the higher end, they also tested how well the kids liked to actually go to school? Here Denmark scored the highest. Finland who had the highest average score, scored very low on the "I like going to school". This also means that many more go on to further educate themselves in Denmark than in many other countries.
IMO it is much more important that the kids actually like going to school and educating themselves, than to force them to sit down and be quite.
You can never, ever force someone to learn new things. They have to be willing to learn as well.
