Best run yet

Riley and I had an awesome run this afternoon. It helped that there was a nice breeze and it was decently cloudy, but the best part is that I've finally found that "conversational" pace at which I should be running. Up to now I've apparently been letting Riley pull me into going just slightly faster than I should, but that tiny bit has been fast ( Read more... )

so, i did the first couch to 5k run yesterday. and my quads HURT. but i took special along and he loved it.

here's the thing...how did you know when to change paces? the only way i figured out how to time it was to make an mp3 using garage band and loading it onto my ipod. the sing file it starts off with two 2 minute 30 second (exactly) songs for warmup, then goes to a new song for 60 seconds of running, another for 90 seconds power walking, and so on until it's done. it's pretty cool, actually. i'm thinking of making a lot of them and selling them on the couch to 5k website. but if you have other ideas (that don't include wearing a watch because i don't have one and don't think that would be a good system for me) then let me know.

in other news, my quads STILL hurt and i'm jealous of your progress.

I've heard about other people using the make-your-own-mix method to keep time, and apparently there are some podcasts available (http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/), but I've never listened to them because I don't listen to music while I run. I just keep time on my watch ... since I check it obsessively pretty much all the time anyway, that works well for me. There's a couch_to_5k community on lj; maybe someone there would have some better ideas.

Isn't it amazing how hard it is to run for just one minute? I thought I was going to die that first day. (Looking back, I'm pretty sure I was trying to go way too fast.) Even though my current runs are still short and slow, I never thought I'd get where I am now. It's pretty exciting for me. :)

I *so* want to see Special's little legs running. I bet it's super-cute!

I should get a small dog to make me look better while I'm running. Riley's legs are so long that he barely has to break into a trot to keep up with me ... it's kind of sad.
