Witnessing someone getting old

Nearly 20 years ago I met a gal who at 40 on a scale of 1-10 she was probably a 15 inside and out.  Two things in her life that literally broke her spirit was her inability to adapt to simultaneous crash and burn in her career and personal love life.

Thanks for telling the story. I think I would have a hard time bouncing back from losing both a career and a primary love partner at the same time. Hopefully I will never have to experience that.

As for old people - I think you just need to find some folks who love what they are doing. I belong to a little 'church lady' type group and several of them are in their sixties or even over 80 and still cheerful and active. It's pretty amazing. If I thought having religious faith would do that for me, I might give it a try. :-)

You are right that not all people who are older are this depressing and conversely not all young people are life affirming.

So hopefully surrounding myself with life affirming people no matter the age may do the trick :)
